Monastic life on this rock began as early as the 12th century, with key figures like Hosios Antonios and Hosios Philotheos credited for its development, the latter having rebuilt the original church in 1545. Today, the monastery features two churches: a 16th-century chapel that suffered damage during WWII and the Greek Civil War, and a larger 18th-century cathedral dedicated to Saint Charalambos, which houses his revered relics.

We had a great time and...
We had a great time and it’s quite a crowded tour but we managed to be on time. Loved the Byzantine art and the views are spectacular. The drive up and back is long so we had prepared some things to do while on the travel bus.

Our tourist guide in Meteora is 5 stars, the only reason why i’m giving 1 star is because the Viator app and email received the before clearly states that we will be picked up and dropped off at Key Tours but they sent a message same morning that pick up at different time and location so we ended taking a taxi and last persons to board. Clearly they need to communicate and change those information with Viator app and because not all travelers will read their text in Whatsapp last minute. We booked our hotel next to Key Tours because that was the pick up and drop off when we booked it but ended up on a different location that was never mentioned in the app and on the email received the night before.

Tour guide was amazing. Maria is a rockstar. Dinged it a star because it was not an 8-course Greek lunch. It was one main and a salad. This tour is loooooong. Be prepared, we did not get back to the meeting point until just after 10 pm. Other than that, the bus was clean and the monasteries are amazing.

Apprehension is an illusion
Well, I am the world's worst for long journeys but it didn't feel like that at all. Comfy coach. Great roads. Regular stops. No kids. Turned out perfect by luck or design. Then the locations just opened up and you think even if it was a 20h round trip I'd do it again.
