The Temple of Olympian Zeus, also known as the Olympieion or Columns of the Olympian Zeus, is a former colossal temple at the center of the Greece capital Athens. It was dedicated to "Olympian" Zeus, a name originating from his position as head of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world, but it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD, some 638 years after the project had begun. During the Roman period the temple -that included 104 colossal columns- was renowned as the largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world.

Arch of Hadrian
The Arch of Hadrian, most commonly known in Greek as Hadrian's Gate, is a monumental gateway resembling – in some respects – a Roman triumphal arch. It has been proposed that the arch was built to celebrate the adventus (arrival) of the Roman Emperor Hadrian and to honor him for his many benefactions to the city. There were two inscriptions on the arch, facing in opposite directions, naming both Theseus and Hadrian as founders of Athens.

Very short visit of Athens
Too short, too busy to be able to hop off and see anything closely. Driver seemed to take us round the same circle at least twice. Very heavy traffic preventing any willingness to see any particular site closely. It is advisable to take a few days in order to get the feel and history in depth of the fabulous city of Athens. Perhaps on another trip, a few days in Athens would do it the justice it deserves.

Amazing tour in Athens!!
We had an amazing tour of Athens! Dionisis was very communicative while booking the tour and reached out to confirm plans as the date got closer, which gave us peace of mind. Our driver Chris and tour guide Iris were amazing and did a wonderful job telling us about Greece, both now and in the classical era. The tour was an efficient use of our time and allowed us to see many places in less time than if we went on our own. Highly recommend!

Great tour - lots of info and very personable. Highty recommend
Excellent tour - Picked us up at the cruise port and drove us all around Athens. It was a holiday so we couldn't get in to some of the sights, but the driver gave us great detials as if we had done a tour inside. Great English and very personable. Took time with us and was very accomidating to what we wanted to do. Saw some things we might not have seen on a normal tour day. Dropped us right off at the airport. We will use them again and we highly recommend.

Well worth the money
Lukas met us in the lobby of our hotel and grabbed our luggage. Then he spent the day showing us his city. We stopped for coffee (fredo espresso) and photo ops and lunch (seafood) and bathroom breaks. And then had a seamless transfer to our ship. I was very happy I booked this tour of Athens before our cruise. It was a money well spent.

Why this scores 52
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
ATHENS in a half day - GREAT OVERVIEW OF THE CITY: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.
How much does ATHENS in a half day - GREAT OVERVIEW OF THE CITY cost?
+
Prices start at $400 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does ATHENS in a half day - GREAT OVERVIEW OF THE CITY take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.
Is ATHENS in a half day - GREAT OVERVIEW OF THE CITY worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 52 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule ATHENS in a half day - GREAT OVERVIEW OF THE CITY?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is ATHENS in a half day - GREAT OVERVIEW OF THE CITY suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book ATHENS in a half day - GREAT OVERVIEW OF THE CITY?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does ATHENS in a half day - GREAT OVERVIEW OF THE CITY start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Athens?
+
On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Athens?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Athens?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
