Following this absolute hipster tour, you’ll explore New Athens and the new Generation of Athenians whose innovative ideas and the passion for creating during the crisis period regenerated the city center in a lively hub where different cultures meet. Discover the modern street food scene of Athens, visit trendy coffee bars, and meet young artists in their studios. Your guide will reveal to you some great spots to blow up your Instagram account! Beginning your hipster walking tour of Athens, you’ll meet your local guide in Korai pedestrian Street and pass through the numerous stoas (covered walkways) of the city where cult cinemas and hidden stores narrate unique old-time stories and feelings of the city. This “old School” setting is the new trendy, and with your local guide you will find out why!

    30 minutes here

  2. Ermou Street

The first Athenian you’ll meet is a young, local artist in an old grocery market building in the buzzing city centre that has transformed into her jewelry workshop. Look through her unique pieces in her showroom as you chat with the artist about her art and the techniques she follows as well as the obstacles to starting a business during turbulent financial times. Moving on to our next stop now, you’ll enjoy a gourmet and organic snack in a hip street food eatery that serves authentic tastes made from traditional recipes of Greece and Minor East. By eating here, you’ll support this small-owned business and local food producers financially as all ingredients used are exclusively produced and packaged by local farmers and vendors.

    60 minutes here

  3. Plaka

Afterwards, you’ll visit our favourite spice house that is so exciting with fragrances and aromas that will travel you into the old Orient. Learn all about spices and herbs, and Greece’s strategic geographical position that brought together traders from East and West, and wake up your senses as you smell all these Asian and African spices, Greek and Balkan herbs, Indian sauces, and famous French tea brands. Of course, no visit is proper without a glass of local mountain tea! Continuing your tour, you’ll wander through the back streets of Athens in an area loved by the hipster community. Experience the areas’ cool vibes, admire charming neoclassical buildings and discover quaint little bars. At our next stop, if we’re lucky and no new tunes are produced at that moment, you’ll experience a musical presentation in a contemporary creative music lab.

    60 minutes here

  4. Agia Irini Church

Then, we’ll stop for a caffeine shot at a cooperative that promotes fair-trade products and supports directly the producers, while next, you’ll be welcomed by the friendly owners of a foodie joint that is located on a cozy pedestrian street. Feel the ethnic vibes, smell the flavors and experience an exquisite savory pleasure made by mama’s hand. After filling your belly, enjoy a stroll around the Commercial Triangle District, an area totally reborn during the last decade of the financial crisis that has transformed into the most prominent asset of the city.

    60 minutes here

  5. Psirri / Gazi

Next, you’ll walk through the Red Light District, to one of the hippest neighborhoods of Athens, known as Psirri. Explore artsy alleys, and discover vintage shops, secret underground clubs, alternative hangouts, and new-style designer collectives. Here is the place that you will recall your childhood memories as you dig out items of the 1980s & 90s culture. Your Athens Hipster walking tour couldn’t be completed without tasting a refreshing delightful organic ice cream made with fresh, high-quality products and selected raw ingredients.

Experience living art with the hipsters walk!

We came to Greece for our honeymoon to explore Ancient and Classical history, so we were surprised that the Hipsters Walk ended up being one of the highlights of our trip! Theodoris, our tour guide, is so knowledgeable and passionate about Athens and its local street art scene. We enjoyed delicious drinks and lively conversation with Theodoris as he told us the history of each art piece and building we passed. He is truly such a kind, funny, and enthusiastic guy. Even if you mostly visit Athens for all the lovely museums, like we did, book this tour so that you can experience the ever-changing living museum that lives and breathes on her streets.

Response from the operator: Dear C4293FMannieb, Thank you so much for the thoughtful review! We are glad to hear that you found this alternative experience rewarding. Athens is a lot more than just the Acropolis and with a knowledgable guide like Thodoris are travelers get to feel like locals for a day. Again, thank you and we are looking forward to showing around on your next visit. Best, Rebecca

Athens tour with Theo: urban evolution and unforgettable experiences. - Ilan

I recently took the Athens Small Group Hipsters Walk, which turned out to be an unexpectedly private tour with Theo as my guide, and it was a standout experience of my trip to Athens. Theo expertly navigated the city's evolution from historic stoas to trendy hipster neighborhoods, illustrating Athens' resilience through its urban development. His passion for the city's history and its vibrant transformation was both informative and contagious. The tour was enriched by personal touches, including local delicacies like wraps at a Lebanese street restaurant and delicious ice cream, making the day not only educational but also incredibly enjoyable. Theo's knowledge and hospitality made this more than just a tour; it was a deep dive into the heart of Athens. For anyone eager to see Athens through a unique lens, this experience is highly recommended. Thanks to Theo for an unforgettable journey! Best, Ilan

Athens Hipsters Tour: Culture, Creativity & Coffee: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.

How much does Athens Hipsters Tour: Culture, Creativity & Coffee cost?

+

Prices start at $89 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Athens Hipsters Tour: Culture, Creativity & Coffee take?

+

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.

Is Athens Hipsters Tour: Culture, Creativity & Coffee worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Athens Hipsters Tour: Culture, Creativity & Coffee?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Athens Hipsters Tour: Culture, Creativity & Coffee suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 18. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Athens Hipsters Tour: Culture, Creativity & Coffee?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Athens Hipsters Tour: Culture, Creativity & Coffee start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Athens?

+

On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Athens?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Athens?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
