Must do tour when you arrive in Athens!

Great experience and highly recommend tour of Athens sites, history, culture, and finished with a wonderful dinner. Our guide, Penelope, gave us an expertly delivered tour around the Plaka, Anafiotika, Monastiraki Square to mention a few. This tour is an absolutely must if you want to get to know the old city of Athens, it’s culture and history, and finish tour with an authentic meze dinner at a local favorite restaurant.

Response from the operator: Hello Sonnyfoodietraveler, we are so glad you enjoyed your time with us in Athens. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this wonderful review. We hope to see you again soon on your next trip to Greece:)

    Wonderful Athens Highlights tour

Wow! So loved our Athens Highlight tour with Penelope! She is so delightful, personable and knowledgeable on so many various aspects of Grecian history, both recent and ancient. As a certified archeologist and tour guide she gracefully laid out our highlights tour in a very walkable and fascinating route through neighborhoods around the Acropolis. Very easy to understand and presented all the facts clearly and effectively so as not to lose the attention of my travel exhaust 13 year old child. For that, I am very grateful! Truly enjoyed seeing lots of historic landmarks and feeling grounded as to where I was in relation to our hotel. And the meze dinner.... wow! As my child is a very picky eater, Penelope was able to find a fantastic taverna that satisfied my desire for authentic Greek dishes and my child's desire for typical bland food. We were both quite satisfied and it is a meal I will always remember.. historic landmarks

Response from the operator: Hello KE, Your kind words are the best reward we could hope for! We are glad you appreciated the skill and personality of Penelope. We aim to make our guests feel welcome while getting valuable insight into the history and culture of our country. Thank you for your positive feedback and we hope to see you and your child again in the near future!

    Best way to explore Athens

My advice is, as soon as you arrive, book a tour with Greeking.me and get a solid foundation for your exploration of Athens for the week ahead. It seems that majority of tourists use Athens as a stopover on the way to the islands. As a result, they will see Acropolis and try gyros on Monastiraki square, while missing out on all the other treasures. We spent a whole week in Athens in October 2020 and this was not enough. There is so much to see in Athens museums and open air sites, you need at least a month to do this city justice. If you want to quickly determine which monuments you want to see up close and have an overall understanding of Athens history, an introductory tour in the first day or two on your holiday is a must. We booked Athens Higlights Evening Tour and our guide Penelope was an absolute delight. We spent more than 3 hours walking streets of Athens , absorbing history and ancient tales. Penelope was great at engaging my daughter, who is 9 and has Ancient Greece as part of her school curriculum this year, and making parallels with mythology. At each of the sites Penelope gave us detailed description of the history and background to the monument. She was able to show us on her iPad how some of the characters looked like , or how a certain temple or a building were used when they were first built. I thought iPad material was a great addition to a walking tour, especially for my daughter as it was much easier for her to imagine how things would have looked like when they were first built. We did not go inside any of the historical sites or buildings during the tour. However, with Penelope’s guidance we were able to determine which ones we wanted to visit during our stay in Athens and went there on other days. For example, Penelope pointed out a couple of churches, which she suggested we could visit during the day. We did come back to a couple of them later in a week, and I thought that Penelope’s recommendations were spot on. Overall, I could not think of better guide and a better organisation of the tour from Greeking. me. Booking process was straightforward and Greeking.me was always responsive on the emails. I thought the tour was a perfect start to our holiday in Athens and would definitely appeal to families with school aged kids.

Response from the operator: Katya, Thank you for your detailed and flattering review. We are over the moon that you consider our ‘Athens Highlights Evening Tour with Meze Dinner’ tour ‘the best way to explore Athens’. This is all we can hope to achieve. We appreciate that you recognize the worth and beauty of Athens, and not misconceive it as a ‘stepping stone’ to the Greek islands. Penelope is an excellent guide full of knowledge, and her connection with kids is amazing to see! We are glad that her recommendations improved your trip and we will make sure she knows how you felt about her. When designing our trips, our motivation is the love we nurture for our country and the desire to communicate it to the rest of the world. Your review is the best reward we could ask for, especially during those difficult times. We hope to see you again as soon as possible and share with you even more of Greece’s beauties!

    Don't miss the evening tour

Eleni was a wonderful guide and made us feel instantly at home in Athens. We visited several of the same sites during the day after our evening tour and we all agreed that they are most beautiful at night. Eleni used her media device to add detail to her presentation and it really helped us understand the history better. The meal was great, too. Thanks for a great tour!

Response from the operator: Hello Kathleen! Thank you so much for the review and your kind words! We are happy to hear that you had such a great time with Eleni and you enjoyed the tour, the meal and the city, too! We hope to meet sometime again in the future! Best wishes :)

Athens Highlights Afternoon Tour with Dinner - Private Experience: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.

How much does Athens Highlights Afternoon Tour with Dinner - Private Experience cost?

    +

Prices start at $90 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Athens Highlights Afternoon Tour with Dinner - Private Experience take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.

Is Athens Highlights Afternoon Tour with Dinner - Private Experience worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 19 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Athens Highlights Afternoon Tour with Dinner - Private Experience?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Athens Highlights Afternoon Tour with Dinner - Private Experience suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Athens Highlights Afternoon Tour with Dinner - Private Experience?

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Athens Highlights Afternoon Tour with Dinner - Private Experience start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Athens?

    +

On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Athens?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Athens?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
