What you get

    About this experience

Walk the trail voted Best of the World 2026 by National Geographic readers: a 10-day coast to coast pilgrimage, 117 km on foot from the black sand of Cemagi Beach to the northern shores of Seririt. Day by day the island changes around you: living rice terraces, sacred springs, food forests, mountain villages, and Batukaru, Bali's last primary jungle, where only a few organizations can guide you. You join a Melukat purification ritual with a priest, learn from master artisans, practice daily yoga and evening circles, and share the homes and tables of farming communities leading the regenerative projects your trail directly funds: we are not just a travel company. Meals are vegetarian, grown on the farms you cross. Nights are spent on handcrafted platforms immersed in nature, in places few travelers ever get to sleep: deep in the forest, at the foot of a waterfall, on a mountaintop. Groups of maximum 9 pilgrims, run by Astungkara Way's own full-time guides and organizers.

So Much More Than a Walking Trail

Absolutely incredible 10-day experience with Astungkara Trail. The guides quickly felt less like guides and more like an extension of family. They held everything together with so much grace, kindness and humour, and made us feel genuinely cared for throughout the entire journey. What really made this experience special was being welcomed into a side of Bali that most tourists don’t get to see. We visited people’s homes and farms, experienced traditional rituals and got a genuine glimpse into everyday Balinese life and culture. And the food! We joked that Astungkara might be about the walking, but really it was about the food. Every meal was incredible. I especially loved the snack stops on the longer hiking days and the amazing breakfasts. My love and tolerance for chilli definitely increased over the 10 days! I also really enjoyed the communal sleeping. It had a fun, school-camp feeling that added to the sense of connection within the group. Overall, this was so much more than a walking trip. It was 10 days of incredible food, culture, connection, beautiful landscapes and being welcomed into local communities. I can’t speak highly enough of the guides or the experience, and I would absolutely do another Astungkara Trail.

Coast to Coast the best experience in my life

Incredible experience! I was intrigued by hiking through the jungle and to explore Bali by foot. I decided to switch off my social media for 12 days even though I could of course always log into a Wi-Fi to check on the latest snake or tree or whatever query. Probably the most healing or Connect to myself experience I’ve ever done in my life. I did not expect this at all, but I came back totally grounded and one with myself again. It’s not something you actively do, it’s something that comes to you by Just going along day after day. I can recommend it highly to anyone at any point in their lives.

    Fulfilling and enriching

There is no other trip I have come across like this. This is my second walk with Astungkara Way for good reasons! Astungkara Way do an absolutely amazing job at putting together the best possible experience to get to know true Bali and learn about regenerative farming. Everything was smooth from start to finish and I have never felt so looked after and nourished on holiday. The guides are fantastic and made the walking fun, the food is SO good, local, made by the beautiful partners at different stays, and in abundance throughout (you’ll see!). The locations are amazing and each one is different, and the activities are great and varied at each stay. The focus on regenerative farming and preserving traditions makes Astungkara Way a gem in what can be a crazy tourism industry. I highly recommend Astungkara Way to anyone who wants a truly rich and fulfilling way to travel at a pace that suits a wide range of people. Thank you to all the team who do such amazing work to make these trips happen.

What should I bring or wear?

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Ubud?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Ubud?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
