Stars galore!
Hands down the best part of Atacama. All the little details to make a comfortable and amazing experience on a cold Atacama night. The stars were amazing and the photoshoot was such a great bonus.

We are truly happy to know that the astronomical tour was the highlight of your experience in Atacama and that you enjoyed such an amazing night under the stars. It is great to hear that the small details, comfort, and organization made the experience even more special, especially in the cold desert night. We are also glad that you enjoyed the photo session as a memorable bonus of the tour. Thank you for trusting Horizonte Atacama. An unforgettable, fascinating experience!
It is something sensational! The desert has a wonderful sky. What happened is that on the night we were supposed to do the tour, the sky did not have good visibility, but the agency promptly notified us and offered a new date.

Unpleasant experience
We also did the astronomical tour with Horizonte Atacama and, although the organization was good, on this occasion the experience did not meet our expectations. We understand that there was a full moon and that this limits sky observation, but we would have liked them to explain that to us from the beginning or to adapt the activity a little more. We hoped to be able to observe not only stars, galaxies, and the Moon, but also some planets, especially considering the fame that the Atacama desert sky has for being one of the best in the world for astronomical observation. Furthermore, we felt that the tour was very fast and that everything happened with too much haste. In the end, while we were barely enjoying the included dinner, the staff was already packing everything up to end the activity, which gave us the feeling that we had to leave as soon as possible. Compared to the other tours we did with Horizonte Atacama, this was the only one that left us a little disappointed. Unfortunately, it was not an experience that my children and I would recommend.

Our driver didn’t show up...
Our driver didn’t show up and pick us up. They did respond today saying they had let me know on WhatsApp that they were going to be an hour and 15 late. I haven’t used my WhatsApp in a couple of years so I refreshed and updated it. I did not receive any kind of notification. I also never received an email or a call (they have both my email and phone number). I am awaiting a refund.
Response from the operator: Good morning, dear Suzanne, Suzanne, we weren't delayed by 1 hour and 15 minutes. We delayed the tour by 30 minutes to take advantage of better weather conditions because the wind was very strong at sunset that day. Instead of leaving from the agency at 8:45 PM, we offered to pick you up at your hotel between 9:15 PM and 9:45 PM. You didn't arrive at the agency at 8:45 PM, so they received the message about the delay via WhatsApp and didn't want to board the tour. The refund has already been processed by the agency.

Horizonte's astronomical...
Horizonte's astronomical tour was the best out of 3 different tours we did in the area. The most notable strengths of this tour (compared to the others) were the number and quality of the telescopes, the quality of the photographs, and the organization/execution/flow of the experience. Other experiences had slightly more things to view or slightly better snacks/beverages, but those probably aren't as important to most guests. If you can only do 1 astro tour, this one's a safe choice.
Response from the operator: Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful comparison of your experiences in San Pedro de Atacama. We are truly pleased to hear that our astronomical tour stood out positively among the different excursions you experienced in the region. 🌌 It is especially rewarding to know that you appreciated the quality and variety of the telescopes, the photographs, and the overall organization and flow of the experience. These are aspects to which our team dedicates a great deal of care and attention. We also appreciate your balanced and honest observations regarding the other elements of the experience. Feedback like yours is very valuable because it highlights what travelers genuinely value most during an astronomical tour in the Atacama Desert. Thank you again for your trust and recommendation. We are honored to have been part of your journey under the skies of northern Chile.

Astronomical Observation Tour in the Atacama Desert: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for San Pedro de Atacama.
How much does Astronomical Observation Tour in the Atacama Desert cost?
+
Prices start at $40 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in San Pedro de Atacama usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Astronomical Observation Tour in the Atacama Desert take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in San Pedro de Atacama is not rushed.
Is Astronomical Observation Tour in the Atacama Desert worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 59 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in San Pedro de Atacama, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Astronomical Observation Tour in the Atacama Desert?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Astronomical Observation Tour in the Atacama Desert suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Astronomical Observation Tour in the Atacama Desert?
+
Around 21 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in San Pedro de Atacama can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in San Pedro de Atacama and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Astronomical Observation Tour in the Atacama Desert start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central San Pedro de Atacama within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in San Pedro de Atacama?
+
On Outty we rank every San Pedro de Atacama experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half Day Tour to Geysers del Tatio, Piedras Rojas + Altiplanic Lagoons and Salar de Atacama, Hidden lagoons of Baltinache | Fleet in saline waters. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit San Pedro de Atacama?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in San Pedro de Atacama?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
