Fantastic enjoyable experience
Brilliantly organized tour. Carlos was fantastic from the beginning: great communication, clear and timely. He went above and beyond helping to find parking for our car. Then Monica, the guide showed so much knowledge and passion that we enjoyed and learned about the volcano, history of the area, flora and fauna. They also bring their own professional photographer- the pictures were great and included in the service. Very competitive price. Reliable and fantastic experience - totally recommend it.
Response from the operator: Thank you for enjoying this lovely hike with us. It's our greatest satisfaction to provide you with excellent service. It's a pleasure for us to be able to provide the best for our clients.

Enjoyed the trek!
Very easy slow hike/walk for most. Some step steps. Appreciated the walking sticks provided. Offered water (bring your bottles to fill) but did not see the beers listed as “included”. Our guide was very informative and passionate about the area, history, and would recommend!
Response from the operator: Hello friends, thank you very much for the evaluation. It is very important for our growth and improvement day by day.

Bad weather
Day was rainy and cloudy. We didn’t see the volcano. Don’t recommend if there isn’t nice weather. Carlos, the guide, was great.
Response from the operator: Hello friends, thank you very much for the evaluation. It is very important for our growth and improvement day by day. Unpredictable weather unfortunately we cannot control it, but thanks a lot to be with us.

Wildlife and volcano hike
The tour included a walk through the rainforest with knowledgable guide, Carlos. He explained some of the flora and fauna, and helped with spotting wildlife, including lizards and a snakle coiled around a tree branch. We then did a hike on lava up to a view spot. As I rounded the corner, a gorgeous view of the Arenal volcano was right before me. Carlos was great with answering my questions on the wildlife and volcano, as well as allowing me some extra time climbing some parts of the hike. I'd recommend the tour, particularly for people who like wildlife, hiking, and volcanos.

Volcano hike and bird watching
Our tour guide Pèpe was excellent the entire tour. I got a little altitude sickness and he was able to assist as we returned back to the starting point. The walk up to the lookout point was not too bad.

Why this scores 68
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Arenal Volcano Naturalistic hike: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Fortuna.
How much does Arenal Volcano Naturalistic hike cost?
+
Prices start at $55 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Fortuna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Arenal Volcano Naturalistic hike take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Fortuna is not rushed.
Is Arenal Volcano Naturalistic hike worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 24 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Fortuna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Arenal Volcano Naturalistic hike?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Arenal Volcano Naturalistic hike suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 5. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Arenal Volcano Naturalistic hike?
+
Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Fortuna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Fortuna and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Arenal Volcano Naturalistic hike start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Fortuna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in La Fortuna?
+
On Outty we rank every La Fortuna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Upper Balsa River White Water Rafting Class 3/4 in Costa Rica, North Fields Cafe: Craft Specialty Coffee and Chocolate Tour, Canyoning Adventure Rappelling Waterfalls in Arenal Volcano. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit La Fortuna?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in La Fortuna?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
