A nice experience even in the pouring rain
It poured rain on the day of the excursion, but we knew that it may be a possibility and were not surprised. Our guide was informative and made the best of that trip.

A brilliant experience from start to finish.
A brilliant experience from start to finish. Our guide (lovely lady but cant remember her name) was knowledgeable and when my husband slipped and fell, grazing his arm she cleaned him up and made sure he was bandaged properly. The views were glorious and the history was interesting. They even stopped en route and got the magnifying camera out to show us a sloth in the trees. Would recommend this company

The hike was harder than expected and we really enjoyed the Paradise hot springs afterwards
The afternoon hike was hard - more water was needed (stock up!) but the views were great and we were really lucky with the weather. Our guide Rey was great and really informative about the formation of the volcano and the effect on local landscape and the population. He airdropped great photos that he took of gorgeous birds. much appreciated. The fresh fruit and biscuits at the end were great. Would do this hike again but maybe take walking poles and extra water. We were disappointed that we weren't going to some of the 'posher' hot springs but Paradise was actually lovely and the buffet dinner was not bad either - we were starving after our very busy day! We didn't need all the time allocated at the springs so we let Rey know and jumped an Uber back to our hotel. Great tour.

Victor is funny and very...
Victor is funny and very knowledgeable guide. He knows lot about volcano and la fortuna. He didn’t make us rush went with slow pace. I went alone but in our group we had 2 elderly people and he made sure they are comfortable all the time. If someone is looking for passionate, knowledgeable and slow pace hike to volcano then victor is the person.

Great hike and great company
This was an amazing hike, very easy for families, not too steep, and long enough to get good exercise. We had a great tour guide as well. Ecoterra is really a great company we had also gone on the Sloth Tour a different day, which was similarly excellent

Arenal Volcano Hike Expedition 1968: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Fortuna.
How much does Arenal Volcano Hike Expedition 1968 cost?
+
Prices start at $58 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Fortuna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Arenal Volcano Hike Expedition 1968 take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Fortuna is not rushed.
Is Arenal Volcano Hike Expedition 1968 worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 39 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Fortuna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Arenal Volcano Hike Expedition 1968?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Arenal Volcano Hike Expedition 1968 suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Arenal Volcano Hike Expedition 1968?
+
Around 14 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Fortuna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Fortuna and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Arenal Volcano Hike Expedition 1968 start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Fortuna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in La Fortuna?
+
On Outty we rank every La Fortuna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Upper Balsa River White Water Rafting Class 3/4 in Costa Rica, White Water Rafting Class II and III, Authentic Coffee and Chocolate Tour at North Fields. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit La Fortuna?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in La Fortuna?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
