What you get

    About this experience

Ao Nang Krabi Stadium behind Nopparat Thara Beach is the largest Muay Thai venue in southern Thailand and puts on regular Thai boxing bouts on a smaller scale, every Friday night. If you would like to see this astonishing sport live, this is the place to come in Krabi. Matches are all about spectacle: a complex dance ceremony is performed before each fight to pay respect to the combattants’ teachers and to the guardian spirit of Thai boxing. However, they are not ‘for show’, as in some tourist areas – they are real fights, regularly attended by local Thai fans.

    What you'll see and do

    1. Ao Nang Krabi Stadium

Muay Thai (Thai boxing, or Thai kick boxing) is Thailand’s national sport. It is a self-defence technique that was developed and tested in battle by the ancient warriors of the kingdom of Siam. A combination of kickboxing and stand-up grappling called clinching, it is often referred to as the ‘art of the eight limbs’ (the arms, elbows, legs and knees, all of which are used to strike the opponent). It is the oldest known style of kickboxing and the most deadly and effective. An adult Thai boxer will usually weigh not more than 55kg, yet again and again when put up against opponents skilled in other martial arts, the Muay Thai fighter has come out on top. Training is intensive and begins young, at six or seven years old, with a boxer’s first fight taking place at around age eight. Their dream, aside from earning money, is to fight in the legendary Bangkok stadiums, Lumpini and Ratchadamnoen, a glory reserved only for a few and watched on television every week by millions of Thai fans. However, they are not ‘for show’, as in some tourist areas – they are real fights, regularly attended by local Thai fans.

Here you just pay double price for the show in exchange for personal ride to the stadium

I bought a ticket here, cause stadium's website was all in Thai language. So smart Thai guys found an opportunity here. Ticket here costs about 3000 Thai baht, when regular price at the box office of the stadium is 1600 for the best seat, and they are always available. So they get my 3000, send me a driver, the guy took me to the stadium (ride which is 200 baht worth at max), bought me a ticket at the cashier and handled it to me)). Profit! I was disappointed that for that money he did not take me back, and I was forced to use the free shuttle bus to the hotel, which the stadium, by the way, organizes for tourists. Since he apparently did not want to disappoint me in advance, his English suddenly became very bad when I starteded talking about returning from the stadium. So after the end of the show, I had to figure out how to get home myself. The show itself was quite average – three interesting fights out of eight. But if I knew the system in advance, I would have saved more than 1000 baht for some beer.

What should I bring or wear?

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Krabi?

    +

How many days do you need in Krabi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
