    1. jayasrimabodhi tree (Ficus religiosa) in the Mahamewuna Garden in historical city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. This is believed to be a tree grown from a cutting of the southern branch from the historical sacred bo tree, Sri Maha Bodhi, which was destroyed during the time of Emperor Ashoka the Great, at Buddha Gaya in India, under which Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) attained Enlightenment. In 236 BC, the Buddhist nun Sangamitta Maha Theri, a daughter of Indian Emperor Ashoka, brought the tree cutting to Sri Lanka during the reign of Sinhalese King Devanampiya Tissa. At more than 2,300 years old, it is the oldest living human-planted tree in the world with a known planting date. The Mahavamsa, or the great chronicle of the Sinhalese, provides an elaborate account of the establishment of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi on the Island and the subsequent development of the site as a major Buddhist pilgrimage site.

    An absolutely unfrogettable experience !

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What an amazing experience! This heritage tour with the mini car was perfectly organized from start to finish. Our guide was super friendly, spoke excellent English, and had incredible knowledge about the history of Anuradhapura and Mihintale. We visited all the highlights - Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanweli Maha Seya, Abhayagiriya, Samadhi Statue, Kuttam Pokuna, and the beautiful Mihintale for sunset. It was a private tour, so we could go at our own pace without any rush. The mini car was very comfortable which is a must in Anuradhapura. This is not just a sightseeing tour, you really learn the story behind the culture and Buddhism. The guide answered all our questions with so much passion and patience. If you are in Anuradhapura, you MUST book this tour. 100% worth the $65! Thank you for an unforgettable day! -

    Great time spent in Anuradhapura!

We had an incredible time with Ajith, who really took great care of us, with many little thoughtful gestures. We learned a lot of things during our visit, he was able to answer all our questions, and we left with stars in our eyes. Even my 8-year-old daughter who isn't passionate about archaeology and visiting ancient cities had a great time and learned things. Visiting this type of site without a guide can be a bit tedious; I really recommend you take the tour with Ajith, who will know how to make your visit pleasant and enriching with his knowledge and enthusiasm!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much dear sir and madam! Thank you so much for this beautiful review . it really touched me! 😊 I'm really glad to meet you and your loving family. I'm truly happy to hear that the whole family had a wonderful time, and especially your 8-year-old daughter! Making archaeology and history come alive for both kids and adults is exactly my goal. I look forward to seeing you again on our next adventure! With all my gratitude, Ajith

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Anuradhapura.

How much does Anuradhapura and Mihintale Heritage Tour with Mini Car cost?

    +

Prices start at $65 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Anuradhapura usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Anuradhapura and Mihintale Heritage Tour with Mini Car take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Anuradhapura is not rushed.

Is Anuradhapura and Mihintale Heritage Tour with Mini Car worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Anuradhapura, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Anuradhapura and Mihintale Heritage Tour with Mini Car?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Anuradhapura and Mihintale Heritage Tour with Mini Car suitable for kids and families?

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Anuradhapura and Mihintale Heritage Tour with Mini Car?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Anuradhapura can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Anuradhapura and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Anuradhapura?

    +

On Outty we rank every Anuradhapura experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private City Day Tour in Anuradhapura, Anuradhapura Heritage Mountain bike / bicycle Tour, Mountain Bicycle Group Tour Anuradhapura & History with Buddhism. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Anuradhapura?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Anuradhapura?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
