An excellent boat trip
An excellent trip with a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. We were with two children aged 7 and 10 and they enjoyed it too. We went at 11.10 before it got too hot and the boat was quiet with only 6 of us so we could move around easily to take photos. We really liked the small open boat which enabled us to see everything easily. Would highly recommend as a way of seeing Ansterdam and learning a bit of its interesting history.

Great to see the city from the canals, the perfect way to see the sights!
We loved this tour! While it was quick, we learned so much about the city and were able to see so much from the water. Next trip we would like to double our time on the water, it was absolutely stunning and we had the best weather! Our guide was super fun and personable.

We’re delighted to hear you loved your Amsterdam canal cruise with Boat Amsterdam and enjoyed seeing the city from the beautiful Amsterdam canals. We completely agree — a canal cruise through Amsterdam is one of the best ways to experience the city and its famous sights. It’s fantastic to know you had beautiful weather for your open boat cruise and enjoyed the fun and personable guiding on board. We’d absolutely love to welcome you back next time for an even longer boat tour through Amsterdam so you can enjoy even more time on the water!

Wonderful canal cruise in a small open boat with excellent guide
We looked at all the boats zipping up and down the canals and decided a small open boat was the best for us - we could see everything easily without a roof overhead, it was still relatively warm with sun and some clouds. Our skipper was Holm and Jasmine was our charming guide. We picked the 2 drink option which included sparkling water, sodas, wine (chardonnay and rose) and Heineken beer, which was just right. If you didn't go for the drinks options, you would still get water and coffee included. The small boat allowed us to go through the tiny canals which were utterly charming, so you could see the old town up close. We had just done a walking tour and were quite tired so this was the perfect way to spend the afternoon. Jasmine was a fund of knowledge and kept up a steady interesting conversation about the sights and the history at the same time serving us drinks. The small boat made it feel personal and we we enjoyed meeting other people on the boat and hearing where they were from. I can thoroughly recommend this company and this guide and skipper who did a great job of navigating us safely. We have done various tours with just an audio guide and you don't get the same experience from someone who lives there and knows the area and its history so well. If you spend so much time and energy and money getting to Amsterdam, spend a little more and book the live guides. We booked the trip on the spur of the moment as they were very close to the Jewish area walking tour that we had just finished, and only had to wait 40 minutes for the boat. Very convenient and time efficient too.

Why this scores 72
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Amsterdam Open Boat Cruise in Old City Center with Live Guide: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Amsterdam.
How much does Amsterdam Open Boat Cruise in Old City Center with Live Guide cost?
+
Prices start at $15 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Amsterdam usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Amsterdam Open Boat Cruise in Old City Center with Live Guide take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Amsterdam is not rushed.
Is Amsterdam Open Boat Cruise in Old City Center with Live Guide worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 47 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Amsterdam, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Amsterdam Open Boat Cruise in Old City Center with Live Guide?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Amsterdam Open Boat Cruise in Old City Center with Live Guide suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Amsterdam Open Boat Cruise in Old City Center with Live Guide?
+
Around 16 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Amsterdam can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Amsterdam and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Amsterdam Open Boat Cruise in Old City Center with Live Guide start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Amsterdam within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Amsterdam?
+
On Outty we rank every Amsterdam experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Amsterdam Canal Cruise with Local Guide and Small Group, Guided Bike Tour of Amsterdam's Highlights & Hidden Gems, Amsterdam: Luxury Canal Cruise including Cocktails & Snacks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Amsterdam?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Amsterdam?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
