The Amazon River is home to thousands of fascinating creatures, each playing a unique role in the jungle's delicate ecosystem. One of its most legendary inhabitants is the red-bellied piranha – a fierce-looking fish that has captured the imagination of Hollywood for decades. Measuring around 25 to 30 cm, this grayish-red predator has a reputation for being dangerous, but the truth is far more surprising. Despite their fearsome appearance, piranhas rarely attack humans. In fact, people living near the Amazon and Nanay Rivers bathe in these waters every day, peacefully coexisting with these misunderstood creatures. Join us and experience the thrill of catching these iconic fish in their natural habitat – a true jungle adventure!

    Great piranha fishing experience!

My tour guide, Jose, was very friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly very experienced. We went piranha fishing at a traditional fishing house, and I managed to catch around 10–11 piranhas! What made the experience even more interesting were the stories Jose and the owner shared about the fishing house. Afterward, at my request, I had the option to have the fish grilled for an extra tip. It was absolutely worth it—the fish was delicious, and having my catch prepared and served made the experience feel truly unique. A fun and memorable experience that I would definitely recommend!

    Great experience

Lito our guide was amazing. We had a great time. We caught a bunch of paranha and then fried them and ate them.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us. We are happy to know that you enjoyed the piranha fishing tour and that Lito made the activity so special for you. This is a very authentic Amazon experience, not only because of the fishing itself, but also because it allows travelers to learn about a local tradition and enjoy the result in a simple and real way. For us, it is important that every traveler feels safe, well guided, and connected with Amazonian life. Thank you for trusting our team. We will continue working with joy and dedication to offer active, authentic, and memorable experiences in Iquitos.

Did not take due to involuntarily causes agency kept money

My passport was stolen. While the airline allowed me to modify dates while I got a new passport. This travel agency did not make an exception to modify the dates by two days. I did have a police report stating what happened. But this agency said my value was lost

Response from the operator: Dear guest, we understand your frustration, but we would like to clarify some important points. You contacted us only two days after the scheduled date of the tour. We are always active answering messages, and at the time of booking you are also provided with a direct phone number for any emergency. Furthermore, it is an official Tripadvisor policy that guests must inform us in advance of any issues, either the day before or on the same day of the tour, so we can assist. In this case, it was not possible to offer a refund or reschedule, since it was a basic promotional tour and we had already incurred operational expenses. We kindly ask for consideration, as our company always fulfills the service and logistics promised. Tripadvisor values genuine guest experiences, but it is also important to note that when reservation policies from both us and Tripadvisor are not followed, it is not fair to leave negative comments that do not reflect the real service provided.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Iquitos.

How much does Amazon Piranha Fishing - Real Jungle Experience cost?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Iquitos is not rushed.

Is Amazon Piranha Fishing - Real Jungle Experience worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Iquitos, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Amazon Piranha Fishing - Real Jungle Experience?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Amazon Piranha Fishing - Real Jungle Experience?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Iquitos can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Iquitos and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Iquitos within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Iquitos?

    +

On Outty we rank every Iquitos experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Pacaya Samiria Mystical 3 Days, 4 days 3 nights on the banks of the Amazon River, Amazing Jungle 3Days 2Nights - Amazon Wonder Expeditions. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Iquitos?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Iquitos?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
