Great tour with Tom

My parents and I really enjoyed this beautiful tour guided by Tom. The scenery and architecture are spectacular and Tom was fun, easy going, and knowledgeable. He did a great job providing us with the relevant background as we went through the sites, complimented with funny commentary and practical tips on good viewpoints and photo ops. We all had a great trip to the less traveled direction from Edinburgh!

Interesting Castle.

Pleasant visit, easy to find. Had to look for parking. Admission fee was discounted for seniors plus National Heritage so made it reasonable. Some of the signage could be clearer and larger. Cafe was clean with seating inside and outside. Seating on higher level wasn't clear. Mediocre choice of food. Interesting walking around the castle and grounds.

Alex D. Made the Trip. Period.

Alex D. was our tour guide and he was spectacular. Charming and a graduate in history (unless I misunderstood). I learned so much about the history of Scotland. He was charming, he told us tidbits all along the way. Fun items. Personal stories (nothing weird...but helped color our view of what we were seeing). The tour itself was fascinating. I must say that the Poison Garden at Alnwick was pretty bizarre and enlightening and SCARY! Alex knew how to answer questions about windmills in the sea and more. He MADE the trip. Thanks Alex.

Terrific Tom

Tom was an amazing tour guide. This tour was magical. Northumberland is beautiful country side. Alnwick Castle is absolutely stunning.

Rabbie’s Alnwick Castle Tour: Disappointing Itinerary and Unprofessional Guide

I booked Rabbie’s Alnwick Castle tour expecting a well curated day focused on interesting destinations and local history. Unfortunately, aside from Alnwick Castle itself, the itinerary felt padded with unnecessary and underwhelming stops that appeared designed simply to fill time rather than provide a meaningful experience. The additional stops offered little value. We spent time at a random stream, stopped to walk across a bridge marking the Scotland and England border, and visited a beach with no clear purpose or notable attraction. These locations lacked context, significance, or any compelling reason to be included on a premium day tour. Instead of enhancing the experience, they made the day feel drawn out and unfocused. The guide, Ally, was another major disappointment. He talked almost continuously throughout the trip yet provided very little insightful or engaging information. Much of the commentary felt rambling and repetitive rather than educational. He also played random music that seemed disconnected from the tour and detracted from the overall experience. Most concerning was the guide’s language. On at least two occasions he used profanity, including the term “pussies,” despite the fact that there were children in the van. This was highly inappropriate and unprofessional. Families should be able to expect a respectful environment on a guided tour, and this standard was not met. Alnwick Castle was excellent and ultimately the only highlight of the day. Unfortunately, the quality of the castle visit was overshadowed by a weak itinerary and a guide whose conduct and presentation did not meet reasonable expectations. I cannot recommend this tour and would encourage Rabbie’s to review both the structure of the itinerary and the professionalism expected from its guides.
