About this experience

This is a day of discovery and history! Our route follows lesser travelled paths, giving you a discerning view of Portugal’s past and present. We travel to the town of Silves. Here there is time to visit the impressive cathedral and to wander the narrow streets(entrance fees not included). From here we continue our ascent into the Monchique Mountain. We will visit the charming little spa village of Caldas de Monchique, with springs of proven medicinal properties. Following the winding road, we reach the highest point in the Algarve – Fóia – standing at 902m above sea-level. Downhill then from Fóia, crossing the countryside and stopping in the small village of Marmelete where you have time to enjoy lunch in one of the local restaurants (included). After lunch we go straight to Costa Vicentina, to visit some magnificent beaches . Then it’s on to the ‘end of the world’ – Cape St. Vincent. Passage through Sagres, a typical fishing village and its sheltered fishing port.

An incredible day in the Algarve

What an amazing day! This tour took us from the mountain tops in the Monchique Mountains to the most southwestern part of Europe in Sagres and Cabo De San Vicente. Along the way, we stopped and had an absolutely fabulous lunch at the Restaurante O’Castelo. Muito delicioso!! The views along the way were breathtaking and the beaches spectacular. It was a full day, but we saw and learned much about the history and culture of the Algarve. I cannot say enough about Ricardo, our guide. He was amazing. 5-stars plus!! He treated us like we were VIP’s. Ricardo, a native of the Algarve, gave us an in-depth narrative on the history of the area along with a unique perspective of its culture. This made the day even more special for us. An outstanding day!!

Response from the operator: Hi again patcQ8368AH! Thank you so much for your amazing review!✨ We’re delighted you enjoyed exploring the Monchique Mountains, Sagres, and Cabo de São Vicente, as well as the beautiful views, beaches, and local culture along the way. It’s wonderful to hear you also enjoyed the lunch experience. We’ll be sure to pass your incredible feedback on to Ricardo, he’ll be VERY happy to know he made your day feel so special and VIP. Disappointed

The tour guide was very knowledgable about the area and we enjoyed his time with us but our group was picked up a bit late and returned at 1:30 pm instead of 3pm. We were supposed to go for a tour of a sardine museum but this didn’t happen.

Algarve a la Carte: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Portimao.

How much does Algarve a la Carte cost?

+

Prices start at $99 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Portimao usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Algarve a la Carte take?

+

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Portimao is not rushed.

Is Algarve a la Carte worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 84 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Portimao, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Algarve a la Carte?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Algarve a la Carte suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Algarve a la Carte?

+

Around 29 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Portimao can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Portimao and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Algarve a la Carte start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Portimao within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Portimao?

+

On Outty we rank every Portimao experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Exclusive Small Group Kayak Tour to Benagil Caves with 4K Photos, Kayak tour to Benagil Cave and guided by local native, Boat Trip to the Benagil Caves from Armação de Pêra. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Portimao?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Portimao?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
