What you'll see and do
Rainbow Ryders Hot Air Balloon
Rise early to begin your hot-air balloon experience. Stop into the office for check-in, then ride to the balloon launch site (which varies day-to-day depending on weather). Your pilot begins the process of inflating the balloon when you arrive. You can even help out the crew during the inflation process for a more hands-on experience. As you float high above the ground, enjoy incredible birds-eye views of the Rio Grande Valley. Your pilot determines the route for the day depending on the wind’s direction. You may fly over the city of Albuquerque and even dip low enough to wave at people or skim the Rio Grande River. Throughout your flight, your pilot shares informative commentary about the landscape beneath you. After approximately one hour in the air, your pilot lands the balloon and the ground crew comes to meet you. Celebrate your flight with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine and a commemorative flight certificate before returning to the original starting point.

So fun!
I was nervous but our pilot Anthony and all the ground crew were great. We drove about 15 mins from the meeting point, got set up, and launched. The pilot was in constant communication with the other balloons to share weather info and make sure we were at safe distances. It did get hot next to the burners so layers are advisable. Yes you can go on this tour if you're scared of heights like me 😀. Look out rather than down and you'll be fine.

Must do while in New Mexico
Must do while in Albuquerque! My pilot was Alfred and he was great. Once you check in and do the waiver they take you and your group out to get the balloon set up and then off you go. Take off was super smooth, the landing like in a plane was a little bumpy. We were in the air for an hour, the only “negative” was I thought it would be over a canyon vs the city. The views were still amazing and we had 6 people on one side and 5 people on the other side plus Alfred in the front. It does get hot, everyone had a jacket or sweatshirt on by the end of the flight most people took their outer layer off. You end the flight with a mimosa toast or juice if under 21 or don’t drink and a ride back to the facility in the van that fallows you to check out. Most people owed a balance but booking on TripAdvisor I was good to leave once we got back

Great ride but RR needs to make cancellation decisions quicker
We reserved a dawn flight on what turned out to be a rainy morning. I'm taking one star off because Rainbow Ryders didn't determine to cancel the flight until 6 am, when everyone had already arrived at the arranged meeting point. If they had cancelled at 5 or 5:15 and texted us, I could have slept in and saved on gas and the time it took to get to the meeting point. Fortunately they had openings the next day, when the weather was fine. Our pilot Mr. Salazar was very experienced and knowledgeable. The hour-long ride was smooth and the landing easy. I recommend RR and would fly with them again.

misleading information
your advertising is misleading. it stayes ride at sunrise. ride has to start after sunrise per rainbow ryders. that was disappointing. i probably would not have gone.

Why this scores 88
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Ride at Sunrise: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Albuquerque.
How much does Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Ride at Sunrise cost?
+
Prices start at $189 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Albuquerque usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Ride at Sunrise take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Albuquerque is not rushed.
Is Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Ride at Sunrise worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 88 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 1,417 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Albuquerque, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Ride at Sunrise?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Ride at Sunrise suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Ride at Sunrise?
+
Around 496 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Albuquerque can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Albuquerque and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Ride at Sunrise start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Albuquerque within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Albuquerque?
+
Albuquerque is balloon country: sunrise flights over the Rio Grande valley, plus Sandia Peak tram rides, Old Town and Route 66 tours, petroglyph hikes and Breaking Bad location runs. Weather-cancellation policy is the thing to read before booking a flight. On Outty we rank every Albuquerque experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 8pm ORIGINAL Ghost Tour of Old Town Albuquerque - since 2001!, ABQ Trolley Co. | Best of ABQ City Tour, High Noon History, Legends & Route 66 Lore - Tour of Old Town. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Albuquerque?
+
October for Balloon Fiesta, otherwise April to June and September to November. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Albuquerque?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
