Colon Tour | Agua Clara Lock Neo Panamax Visitor Center Duration 7 Hours Agua Clara Lock The great construction of the Expanded Panama Canal continues to marvel local residents and visitors. Some interesting facts are related to the amount of material utilized. For example, the 192 thousand tons of steel required for the construction of Third Set of Locks could be used to build 19 Eiffel Tower. Fort San Lorenzo Castillo de San Lorenzo was first authorized in 1564. But like many other works of the Spanish crown in the Indies it took forty years before any construction began. The site selected was high on a cliff, where canons could effectively protect the entrance to the Charges River and offered an unencumbered view of the ocean for miles. The first fort, like all those of early Panama, used ancient double palisade techniques, where two opposing wooded walls would be in filled with earth and then roofed with woven reed and palm thatch.

It's not worth going to colon. It's a dirty, abandoned city. There are no public toilets or bars to drink any soda.
The only good thing about Panama City was the walk to the canal.very well organized, it is a good experience to see a grain cargo ship pass.. Train to colon Does not work every day q note x page

Great Colon trip
Aqua Clara Canal system is absolutely amazing. We observed 2 ships pass through the locks. Truly breathtaking.
Response from the operator: Agua Clara opened its doors in 2015 and has been the focus of our expeditions on the Atlantic side of Panama. The expansion of the canal along with Agua Clara center has allowed visitors to see and learned the operations of the canal of Panama. We are glad that you booked with us and see the marvellous side of the Canal.

Great work
The train ride is an attraction apart. We crossed the country in just over 1 hour. The Water Clear Blocking Center has a large infrastructure to welcome visitors. We had the great happiness of experiencing the engineering of the canal, seeing the cruise of the ships and understanding how everything was done by watching the movie about the history of the canal and its expansion. The restaurant serves delicious food with a beautiful view of the canal.
Response from the operator: Thank you to our Brazilian customers. They enjoyed the team we put together and the professionalism of thei job describing this engineering feat.

Impressive civil work
Very interesting the experience of seeing the great work that revolutionized the story in the same canal past the locks on the boat, an impressive feeling. We hired the tour in Spanish and the guide forgot to give the explanations in Spanish. We had to ask him and remind him. The food on the boat is very poorly organized: many groups agree and there is not enough room to sit down to eat at the tables or for a quarter of the passengers.

Why this scores 52
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Agua Clara Canal Lock Center & Colon Fort: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Panama City.
How much does Agua Clara Canal Lock Center & Colon Fort cost?
+
Prices start at $225 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Panama City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Agua Clara Canal Lock Center & Colon Fort take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Panama City is not rushed.
Is Agua Clara Canal Lock Center & Colon Fort worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 52 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.1/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Panama City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Agua Clara Canal Lock Center & Colon Fort?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Agua Clara Canal Lock Center & Colon Fort suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Agua Clara Canal Lock Center & Colon Fort?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Panama City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Panama City and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Agua Clara Canal Lock Center & Colon Fort start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Panama City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Panama City?
+
On Outty we rank every Panama City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tour to a waterfall and Embera village with lunch included, Ocean to Ocean Combo: Canal Boat Safari, Agua Clara & Gatun Locks, Half day of Panama city and canal tour: shared and private. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Panama City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Panama City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
