Vivid Imagination
Jeremy, our tour guide told the stories with so much zest that it makes a vivid impression. You can almost see the stories as they are been told

Incredible Customer Service
I'm leaving five stars because of the customer service that I experienced from this company. The day of the scheduled tour, there was a weather alert with temperatures set to reach a heat index of 109 in New Orleans. I'm *sure* they have language that would protect them from such things and they could have kept the $74 from my wife and I. When I reached out in the morning, they processed the refund without hesitation. I was hopeful, but not expecting a full refund based on experiences with other companies. This was incredibly refreshing, and while I can't speak about the tour (I'll let the other reviewers do that), I can say that this is a company I would encourage people to deal with because of how they handled this situation with understanding.
Response from the operator: Hi Adam! We appreciate the review but it sounds like there may have been some confusion about the reply we sent you on Monday. Since you didn't cancel until a few hours before the tour, we didn't issue a refund for your tickets as at least 24 hours notice is required. We do post that in the info about our tours, and it's an industry standard that businesses like our use to avoid losses where possible so we can keep ticket prices reasonable. However, as we offered in our previously, we'll be happy to rebook you to this or one of our other tours now or in the future. You can reach out to us anytime at manager@hottesthell.com if you would like to take advantage of that.

The spooky experience
Very good narration! Elaine narrated the stories and facts with a lot of passion. She made the tour very interesting and exciting.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much Radhika! Elaine is just as friendly as she is knowledgeable and her tours are always the perfect balance of macabre and energetic. Thank you for choosing Hottest Hell!

Dark & fascinating NOLA history
My wife thought it was going to be scary only to find out about the dark and fascinating history of NOLA. Our guide Doug was very knowledgeable and entertaining. If you like history, this tour is worth it!
Response from the operator: Thank you Leonard! We firmly believe that the true history of New Orleans is often scarier than any urban legends, and Doug is master at blending facts and folklore with a spooky touch. Thank you for choosing Hottest Hell!

Hijinks, history, and heathenry in the French Quarter
7 hours ago New One of my favorite ways to enjoy a new-to-me city is to take a haunted history tour. Chicago, San Diego, Baltimore, Grass Valley, Virginia City, and Boston. I’ve done four in New Orleans so far, and I can say with certainty that tonight’s True Crime tour with Doug was one of the best I’ve had the privilege to attend. Doug’s acting skills gave the tales of the darker history of New Orleans a fun boost of energy. Most of the stories we heard were ones I hadn’t heard previously, and I look forward to taking some of Doug’s additional tours in the future (when it’s not summer. My California weather wimp ways are showing). If you are a true crime history buff, or want to hear well-researched tales that are more than “they say…” kind of yarns, check out Doug on the Hottest Hell Tours!
Response from the operator: We're thrilled you enjoyed our Dim Corner tour! Doug never fails to bring our most obscure true crime stories to life and we're thrilled his mastery of storytelling left you wanting more! our Gates of Guinee tour was designed by Doug himself to explore all things Voodoo if you'd like to be delighted by more off-the-beaten-path history. Thank you for choosing Hottest Hell!

Why this scores 68
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Adults-Only True Crime, Mafia, Dark History Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for New Orleans.
How much does Adults-Only True Crime, Mafia, Dark History Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $37 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in New Orleans usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Adults-Only True Crime, Mafia, Dark History Tour take?
+
Plan for about 1.8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in New Orleans is not rushed.
Is Adults-Only True Crime, Mafia, Dark History Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 24 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in New Orleans, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Adults-Only True Crime, Mafia, Dark History Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Adults-Only True Crime, Mafia, Dark History Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Adults-Only True Crime, Mafia, Dark History Tour?
+
Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in New Orleans can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in New Orleans and add a light layer if any part of the 1.8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Adults-Only True Crime, Mafia, Dark History Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central New Orleans within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in New Orleans?
+
New Orleans runs on licensed guides, and it shows: the city requires certification for tour guides, so the floor is higher here than most US cities. Ghost and cemetery walks, French Quarter food crawls, plantation history day trips and swamp boat runs make up the bulk. We rank on whether the operator handles cemetery access properly, since St. Louis No. 1 needs an authorised guide. On Outty we rank every New Orleans experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include New Orleans Swamp and Bayou Boat Tour with Transportation, New Orleans Swamp Tour Boat Adventure, New Orleans Self-Transport Swamp and Bayou Boat Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit New Orleans?
+
February to May and October to November. August is heat and storm season. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in New Orleans?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
