MEETING OUR GUIDE. Your guide will be waiting at Makrygianni Street at the Acropolis Metro stop which is just around the corner from the Acropolis Main Entrance. Our meeting spot provides an ideal perspective from which to view the surrounding wall of the Acropolis built by the earlier Mycenean civilization and to provide you with an introduction to the History of the Acropolis, its importance and role in the life of ancient Greece, and an overview of the temples & amazing monuments you are about to see.

Theatre of Dionysus
Still in a good state of preservation, one of our first stops is the Ancient THEATER OF DIONYSUS. Built in the 4th & 5th century BC in a natural amphitheater o nthe slopes of the Acropolis it would have had an impressive capacity of 25000, it is considered the world's oldest. Amazing to think that many of the most famous Ancient Greek plays would have had their original premieres here!

Propylaea
Ascend towards the monumental gateway (Propylaia) and entrance to the Acropolis. As the Temples of the Acropolis come into view, the Ancient Greeks would have been greeted by an enormous decorated Bronze Statue of the Goddess Athena. As legend has it, the tip of her upheld spear could be seen by incoming ships in the sunlight.

Built around 420 BC, and one of the earliest temples of the Acropolis, this Classical Ionic Temple was dedicated to the Goddess Athena and is largely restored, with a prominent position overlooking the City.

Fantastic Tour With Betty.
Group of 6 did the 8am Acropolis tour with Betty as our guide. Super easy meeting place. We started our tour outside with the history of the museum, houses that line the area, and how to distinguish the different eras of the Acropolis. Entry into the Acropolis was all handled by Betty. Once in the history and details provided by Betty were fantastic. What was awesome was getting so much information on Athens history and sites not just inside the Acropolis, but the surrounding area as well. As the person who booked the tour for the group, let me just say I was very relived with how everyone in our group commented how awesome the tour was. We all said there was just no way touring the site on our own we get even 10% of what we learned from Betty. I had to do some selling to take the 8AM skip the line private tour to our group, but seeing the lines and the madness growing even at 9:45 made us realize it was the absolute best way to experience this awesome site. Overall, great guide , great experience , highly recommend and I cannot stress enough do the 8 Am tour.

The private tour is...
The private tour is undoubtedly the best option, but unfortunately, on the day we visited, even our private tour guide couldn’t provide us with a standout experience due to a system outage. Although this caused a delay in our entry to the Acropolis, our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed our time together. We learned a lot and had a fantastic time. Since we visited in early July, I advise you to bring a hat as the weather was extremely hot. Overall, I highly recommend the private tour.
