Challenging, yet so rewarding
Our guide, Philippa, was an absolute pleasure. She was so patient with us, allowing us to take our time and enjoy the views. There was never even the slightest hint of us needing to rush. She was extremely knowledgeable about the mountain and shared lots of interesting pieces of information with us. She kept offering to take photos and videos of us. The climb itself is quite a challenge. We actually found the descent harder than the ascent. The booking was made easily and we were picked up right on time. And the abseil, what a thrilling experience!! We did this at a time that the cable cars were not running so we were the only ones doing this activity. It takes your breath away to basically hang with a harness off the side of a sheer face cliff. The views are also incredible. The staff was very helpful and made sure we had fun but also felt safe the whole time. Highly recommended!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the fantastic review! We are thrilled to hear you had such an incredible adventure on Table Mountain. We’ll be sure to share your wonderful feedback directly with your guide! We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, and we hope to welcome you back for another adventure soon!

This was the exhilarating highlight of our trip to Cape Town!
This was the exhilarating highlight of our trip to Cape Town! We LOVED the experience. The guides were really excellent - great banter and humour whilst remaining professional and engaging. All 4 guides are a credit to your team! We were able to abseil down together which was really fun and the “surprise” half way down was a big surprise to me and got my heart racing double time! A real Adrenalin boost and we would SO recommend this activity to every single person going up table mountain! The hike back up is in itself a great activity - we took it slow and enjoyed the breathtaking views.

Fabulous!
Fabulous abseil with my 16 yr old son. Views were amazing. Hike back was phenomenal, and a bonus as we had already hiked up Skeleton Gorge Track to get to the top of the Mountain [took me 3.5 hrs, son 3hr but he could have done it in less]. Staff at Cape Xtreme were AMAZING. Several staff members at 2 different levels, all supportive & encouraging, they took great photos and a video w our own phone (no extra charge) from the top leaving us to focus on the abseil. Although I've abseiled a few times before, I was worried as I have since developed hand and wrist issues (arthritis and trigger finger). So to be able to do it w my son on his first proper abseil was really special. Thanks Guys! You are awesome 👌

Awesome adrenaline rush!
Truly awesome experience. Since I recently Bungy jumped from the Blaukrans, I thought this would be much easier, but the adrenaline rush experienced during Abseiling is five times greater than Bungy. A must-do for all the adrenaline junkies out there! And the crew at the Table mountain along with their equipment make this activity even more memorable. Cheers to Tristan! I did make it alive! 😊

Why this scores 50
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Abseiling Table Mountain: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cape Town.
How much does Abseiling Table Mountain cost?
+
Prices start at $1330 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cape Town usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Abseiling Table Mountain take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cape Town is not rushed.
Is Abseiling Table Mountain worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 50 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable outdoors in Cape Town, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Abseiling Table Mountain?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Abseiling Table Mountain suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 10. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 1-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Abseiling Table Mountain?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cape Town can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cape Town and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Abseiling Table Mountain start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cape Town within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cape Town?
+
On Outty we rank every Cape Town experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Penguins Day Tour from Cape Town, Table Mountain, Boulders Penguins and Cape point Day Tour, Wine Tour: Paarl, Franschhoek & Stellenbosch incl 3 wineries. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cape Town?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cape Town?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
