What you get
About this experience
Experience real budo culture in a modern dojo built in 2023 — a quiet, authentic space where beginners can learn essential karate movements, posture, and breathing with simple and friendly English explanations. Everything you need is provided. In Japanese culture, a “dojo” is not a gym or a studio, but a place where people focus, breathe, and work on themselves through calm, disciplined movement. Karate belongs to budo, a traditional way of training body and mind together. This experience introduces these ideas in a gentle, beginner‑friendly way. You will learn basic etiquette, breathing, and essential movements inside a clean, modern dojo with traditional elements such as a kamidana. Your instructor explains both the techniques and their cultural meaning in easy English. After training, you will enjoy a cozy moment at a traditional standing‑style sake bar next to the dojo — a warm highlight for many guests.

So much fun!
Nori is so friendly and approachable but so good at teaching the basic skills of Karate (Budo). My friend and I learnt so much and we watch the videos Nori filmed often as it was one of our favourite, most authentic Japanese experiences of the trip! Definitely recommend

You’ll be back!
As a young karate practitioner, this was my first trip to Japan and my first experience of karate there, and I wasn’t disappointed. I was welcomed by Nori-san, who is a very kind and patient teacher. His lesson was very informative. My only regret is that time flew by too quickly ^^ Before I left, we had a chat over a drink, which gave us the chance to get to know each other better, including discovering a shared passion for certain manga. I left wanting to come back, and I’ve already planned my next visit! See you soon, Nori-san, and thanks again 🥋🙏

Perfect and productive day
Fantastic experience with the great Sensei Noriaky Nakazawa, thank you so much for the wonderful day! We have been welcomed in a very friendly way. The lesson lasted enough time to study a very interesting Kata that I did not know about. Everything concluded with us celebrating with a delicious icy beer, Kanpai! The experience is extremely recommended to every tourist that is staying in Tokyo for a couple days. I am italian and I will tell all my friends to pay a visit for sure! Massimo from Italy

An Unforgettable Karate Experience in Tokyo
I had the incredible opportunity to train with Sensei Nori Nakazawa and I would wholeheartedly recommend this experience to everyone. It is a truly remarkable chance to connect with an extraordinary budo teacher. Sensei Nakazawa is not only an expert in traditional karate, affiliated with one of the most renowned Japanese associations worldwide, but also an open-minded teacher who has spent years with martial artists from diverse disciplines. His perspective on Japanese martial arts goes far beyond that of a typical sensei. Training with him was a profound experience, not only did I deepen my technical skills, but I also learned how to engage my whole body in harmony, allowing me to reflect the true spirit of karate. The location is amazing, there’s a great atmosphere, a nostalgic vibe like being in a classic 90s movie, having a personal journey with a master. On top of all that, Sensei Nakazawa is a warm, humble, and caring person, always attentive to your needs, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second,if you want a genuine karate experience, book Tokyo Karate Experience with Sensei Nori Nakazawa.

Why this scores 62
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
A Tokyo Karate Dojo Activity Experience: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tokyo.
How much does A Tokyo Karate Dojo Activity Experience cost?
+
Prices start at $15000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tokyo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does A Tokyo Karate Dojo Activity Experience take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tokyo is not rushed.
Is A Tokyo Karate Dojo Activity Experience worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 19 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tokyo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule A Tokyo Karate Dojo Activity Experience?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is A Tokyo Karate Dojo Activity Experience suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book A Tokyo Karate Dojo Activity Experience?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tokyo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tokyo and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does A Tokyo Karate Dojo Activity Experience start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tokyo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tokyo?
+
Tokyo is less a city than a stack of neighborhoods with completely different opening hours. A guided food crawl through Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho gets you past the no-tourist curtains, while the day trips west to Hakone and Fuji need an early start to be worth the fare. Our ranking weighs guide quality heavily here, because in Tokyo the guide is the product. On Outty we rank every Tokyo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tokyo Shinjuku Chopsticks Making Class, Tokyo : Asakusa Chopsticks Making Class, Shinjuku Night Food and Bar Crawl. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tokyo?
+
Late March to May for blossom, October to November for clear Fuji views. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tokyo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
