The number one food tour in Mexico City
If you're looking for the **best food tour in Mexico City**, stop searching and book with Chef Jorge Davalos. This wasn't just a food tour; it was the highlight of our entire trip to CDMX. Chef Jorge takes you far beyond the typical tourist experience and into the heart of hidden Mexico City, where every stop tells a story. This is a neighbourhood we never would have found, far from the tourist trade but rich in flavour. The Mole was divine, served in a family run gem you would never discover on your own. We learned so much at the local market. What makes this experience truly exceptional is Chef Jorge himself. His knowledge of Mexican gastronomy, history, culture, and local traditions transforms every tasting into an unforgettable experience. You don't just eat amazing food; you learn why each dish matters, how it's made, and who's behind it. His passion is contagious, and his warmth makes you feel like you're exploring the city with a longtime friend. If you're searching for an **authentic Mexico City food tour**, a **chef-led culinary experience in CDMX**, or a way to discover the **hidden side of Mexico City**, this is the tour you want. Every stop was perfectly chosen, every recommendation was outstanding, and the entire experience felt personal rather than commercial. I've taken food tours around the world, and this is easily one of the best. The quality of the food, the cultural insights, and the unique locations make it stand out from every other tour we've experienced. Without question, Chef Jorge Davalos offers what I believe is the **number one food tour in Mexico City**. If you want to experience the real CDMX through its incredible food, local neighbourhoods, and rich culinary traditions, don't miss this tour. We'll be recommending it to everyone we know and can't wait to return.
Response from the operator: We are really happy with Chef Jorge Davalos, thank you so much for this very detailed review.

Tacos and much more!
Carl was a wonderful guide around the Bella Vista neighborhood. Not only did we eat well, but he had so much info to share about local traditions and foods we were chatting and exploring the whole time. As we headed to our first stop we passed a local tortilla maker who knew Carl and handed us samples--an experience we repeated throughout our time together. Our first stop was a lovely family owned place where we had amazing mole and enchiladas. Grandma was busy cooking in the kitchen, but her grandson made sure we were happy. We continued on our tour to an indoor market to sample goat tacos and learn more about the complexity of moles. We had watermelon, flautas, chicharones and much more. What a perfect day! Carl and Milou were the best guides.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this lovely review. Chef Karl loved hosting you, a great group.

The best food tour in Mexico City
We felt very privileged to take this tour. Karl and Milou were excellent hosts. We learned about the history of many foods and the traditions. Chef Wilder has so much respect for the people, the culture and the food. A very memorable day.
Response from the operator: You are very kind.

We will do it again ;)
We are big fans of Chef Karl and the Chef tours, so while traveling we decided to try the new CDMX tour. This was a learning experience. In addition to trying many excellent street foods, we learned the history and origin of the dishes. With The Chef Tours, everything is next level, and being joined by Milou made it so much more fun. When you taste a bite with a 3,000-year history, it really adds to the experience. What a wonderful evening experience, but I must tell you your night will be different. We were a group of 6 and booked a private tour. The night tour normally includes a lot of alcohol, but we do not drink, so he customised the tour for us to be all food. Culinary school, street food, a beautiful park and a guide who has great knowledge. The Chef Tours never disappoints. Milou made our night.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much. I should point out that this is a review of both the day and night tours for the readers as they were condensed into one.

A Taste of Hidden Mexico City: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mexico City.
How much does A Taste of Hidden Mexico City cost?
+
Prices start at $119 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mexico City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does A Taste of Hidden Mexico City take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mexico City is not rushed.
Is A Taste of Hidden Mexico City worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mexico City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule A Taste of Hidden Mexico City?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is A Taste of Hidden Mexico City suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 8. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book A Taste of Hidden Mexico City?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mexico City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mexico City and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does A Taste of Hidden Mexico City start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mexico City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Mexico City?
+
On Outty we rank every Mexico City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Frida Kahlo VIP [Museum Tickets Included] Walk, Markets & Churros, Local Foodie Adventure CDMX: Tacos & more with Sherpa Food Tours, Balloon Flight+Gruta brekfast+Teotihuacan Tour from Mexico City. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Mexico City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Mexico City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
