What you'll see and do
Luang Prabang
Our driver for the morning will pick you up from your hotel in Luang Prabang where you may join other ‘rice enthusiasts’ before heading out into the rural landscape of charming Laos. The ride is a short one, and you may see the abundance of green already from a distance (season depending). This educational and family-orientated half-day journey into the rice paddy fields takes place all around a local farm, specializing for generations in the art of rice farming and cultivation. A local English-speaking guide will welcome you and will be your host for the morning. The process from seed until they reach your plate in a cooked or fried version are said to take 14 different levels, and all this, and more, is explained and showed during these 3.5 hours of learning the fine art that surrounds Laos' stable food.

The farm and the community living on and around this fertile part of Luang Prabang have made it their livelihood to cherish and protect this means of honest, Laotian form of labour. In just a few simple yet well-explained steps, your host takes you from one stage to the other: from planting to harvesting, quality control, sieving and packing it. In the end, nothing gladdens the mood when you see buffalos ploughing through the land to prepare the planting. All income of this tour goes back for the full 100% into the community, giving this experience a very much sustainable stamp of approval. Other farming activities may pass the revue such as weaving and gardening, all in line with local Laotian traditions. At the end of the morning, we will bring you back to your hotel in Luang Prabang just before lunch. Time for some rice?

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Luang Prabang?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Luang Prabang?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
