Best Day in Marseilles.....

This was an excellent experience of all day kayaking. The guide provided roto plastic kayaks, skirts, life jackets, water shoes and dry bags. He recommends single kayaks for improved exploration and mobility. After some training to be sure we were safe, we took off on a fantastic adventure. The office is a bit rugged/ rough but once on the water your experience will be much better than any of the other sit kayaks I saw. Well worth it.

bad experience

August 2024 A bad experience, not at all recommendable this company that manages in a decadent way and seems about to close. Their management space looks like a junkyard, far from the sea, where they are supposed to provide the service, which makes you lose time (and therefore money) in getting there. Furthermore, from the port of Marseille, it takes many hours of kayaking to have a good visit to the Calanques, and therefore, many hours of kayaking end up being spent in the port, which makes the visit to the Calanques by sea very unapproachable and very disappointing. The company also does not have good management service. There are better companies in Cassis that are closer to the Park and more economical!

Response from the operator: Hello, Such an opinion makes us question... First of all I am sorry for your bad experience but less for your choice. I do not know who you are and what day you came and on what program, so I will have difficulty answering everything. However to defend myself from this opinion, I can tell you that many explanations are given on our website that could have warned you of our operation, and I can guess the reason for your dissatisfaction. 1. The kayak base and the reception is in an old Youth Hostel where we store the equipment and meet the participants. This site is inland and not by the sea. It is accessible to all by public transport from Marseille city center quite easily. 2 From this site, we radiate into the region with a kayak trailer minibus and we transport people to the chosen destination. It is the guide who takes his participants to this chosen destination. 3 The choice of site in the morning depends on the latest weather report which is taken at 8:00 a.m. The choice of the guide is always oriented towards the easiest site according to the direction of the wind, the swell and the strength of the wind. This is considering that the participants are total beginners. (We have other programs for kayakers but not for sale on Tripadvisor or Viator). This implies several things which are that: - it is not possible to subscribe to a specific itinerary because it can change. (Decision of the guide vs weather) - Sometimes you have to go a little far by minibus to navigate sheltered from the mistral (prevailing wind that blows from the North West sometimes strong). - Sometimes on a windy day even sheltered, the initiation time must be longer so that all members are ready to face the sometimes slightly rough sea. - Sometimes there are significant differences in level between the participants, the best must be patient it is the game of the group.. It is an outdoor sport where we must adapt the session to beginner participants. And generally speaking, you should not consider a day in the coves in a sea kayak as a visit to a museum, there is first an activity to discover with a kayak to master in a changing environment that can be dangerous. Sometimes the days are ideal and sometimes less so... You have to remain philosophical and have fun by seeing things positively. Other points: Our kayaks are real sea kayaks, closed with skirt: €2000 => Local service providers in Cassis use Sit on Top type kayaks for rental: Kayak €400. When the weather conditions allow us, we will also embark in Cassis! If you have not been there, it is because that day the weather did not allow it. If you spent a lot of time in the port, it is because the wind was strong and you had to learn a lot of things technically. You were able to get out to go to the coves when your group was ready. For the place "that looks like a junkyard", I grant you: it was a youth hostel before it became a shelter for vulnerable women, it has not been very well maintained since Covid. On this point it is true, but the place is not dangerous and we do not spend much time there during a day. It is a meeting place that is improving day by day ... We are just tenants in this space which is very strategic to go to all the spots by minibus. In short: For a day of kayaking = 90 €, you have: - a great sea kayak - a guide for a maximum of 8 participants. - a minibus transport between 5 and 50 km to go sailing in optimal conditions. We are the only ones in the region to be able to offer so many routes and to be able to play with the weather without canceling I hope I have answered as many questions as possible for you and the readers of this review. Kind regards, Jérémie

Stunning landscapes & amazing adventure

The full day kayak trip is truly a full day's worth with around 7 hours of kayaking, which is exactly what I wanted. The landscapes are so breathtaking and the water is so clear. I went solo along with 5 other travellers and we kayaked around several islands, stopping to take a break at one beach before deciding to go around the island for a more private one. There we spent an hour enjoying our packed lunches and could swim, hike, and rest before continuing onward. It was well paced, though travellers should be aware you do need to be somewhat in shape for what is a long (but totally worth it) day. Highly recommend this trip and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
