    Guido was Great!

We saw everything that we wanted to. The car was roomy, safe, and our tour guide was knowledgeable. Guido communicated via What's App to find us at our cruise port. It was important to see Pompeii and Viator worked with us to re-book a tour vs. cancel due to an unscheduled car repair. I am grateful.

    Bait and switch

First of all, I want to say that the tour guide who "rescued" our trip was amazing. His name is Guido. Guido is awesome! This review is not a reflection on Guido but on the Amalfi Coast Lovers tour group. Sadly for us and for Guido, this was NOT the trip we booked and paid for. We booked a PRIVATE tour. The day before we arrived (and too late to find a decent alternative), we got a WhatsApp message from Amalfi Coast Lovers that we could either join with two strangers for a group trip or pay 480 Euro MORE to keep our trip private. If we refused, they would cancel our trip altogether. It was a classic bait and switch. The story was that Amalfi Coast Lovers had two cars flooded by rain. They apparently had vans available but they would charge us 480 Euro more to use a van instead of a car for a private tour. Of course, we chose to join the other couple even though we feel like we were being ripped off. The other couple (who got the same story) were nice people but with very different goals than ours. They just wanted to hop on and off at each stop. We wanted to actually tour the stops. It reminded us of ALL the reasons we booked a private tour. We were also in the back of a van and couldn't hear half of what the tour guide said since the other couple insisted on sitting in the front. The tour company gave us an "upgrade" by adding two hours to our tour. Of course, the other couple had to be back to their ship two hours before we did so we were rushed and had to return a little early. All in all, we were sadly disappointed. We should have just booked a cheaper bus excursion on our cruise ship.

Response from the operator: Dear Barry, We are sorry you were disappointed, but calling this a “bait and switch” is unfair and does not reflect what actually happened. The day before your tour, we informed you transparently that our cars had suffered serious flood damage after heavy rain. This was a real emergency, documented by police and insurance reports, not a commercial tactic. Since the original private car was no longer available, we offered you clear alternatives: receive a full refund, or keep your booking with a free upgrade to a 9-seat minivan shared with only two other guests, extending the tour from 6 to 8 hours at no extra cost. You accepted this option. We also want to clarify an important point: we did not ask you to pay an additional €480. The €480 was the total price for an alternative fully private minivan tour, not a supplement on top of what you had already paid. Presenting it as if we asked for “€480 more” is incorrect. Guido did not “rescue” the tour from us. Guido is part of our company, and his excellent service is our service. We understand that the day was not exactly what you originally booked, and we are sorry for the unexpected inconvenience. But we acted honestly, offered solutions, upgraded the vehicle, added extra time, and did everything possible to avoid cancelling your day completely. That is not a bait and switch. That is a small local company doing its best during a real emergency.

Half Day in Pompeii, Ravello & Amalfi

We had such a great time. A rep from the company Catarina contacted us a few weeks before to introduce herself and to tell us that if there was anything we needed or wanted for the tour she would handle it for us. The day before she contacted us to see if we wanted to purchase skip the line tickets to Pompeii, which we did. We met our driver Stefano the day of and he did an amazing job getting us to Pompeii, Ravello and Amalfi. He also suggested this really nice restaurant along the Amalfi Coast and the food was delicious. He made sure to get us back to our cruise ship in more than enough time for all aboard. We had a great experience!

    Our driver was wonderful...

Our driver was wonderful - the best in Europe in many years. The private tour is the best way to see the highlights in a short time.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Salerno.

How much does 6-Hour Private Tour from Salerno to Pompeii, Ravello, and Amalfi cost?

    +

Prices start at $380 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Salerno usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 6-Hour Private Tour from Salerno to Pompeii, Ravello, and Amalfi take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Salerno is not rushed.

Is 6-Hour Private Tour from Salerno to Pompeii, Ravello, and Amalfi worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 24 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Salerno, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 6-Hour Private Tour from Salerno to Pompeii, Ravello, and Amalfi?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 6-Hour Private Tour from Salerno to Pompeii, Ravello, and Amalfi suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

    +

Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Salerno can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Salerno and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 6-Hour Private Tour from Salerno to Pompeii, Ravello, and Amalfi start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Salerno within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Salerno?

    +

On Outty we rank every Salerno experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full-Day Amalfi Coast Experience from Sorrento, Naples or Salerno, Small-Group Amalfi Coast Day Cruise from Positano, Amalfi Coast Boat tour Small Group. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Salerno?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Salerno?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
