    Bad, disappointing, dangerous.

The truth is that we did not like the excursion. They take you to places that are totally overcrowded. And the whole time they try to sell you things during the tour. Also, the guide advised us that if we were going to have something to drink on the excursion, we should do it at Cholln because he said it was the best place, and in our opinion, it was the worst... I don't know if they were getting a commission... The worst part of all was the transfer from one island to another; the boat was going excessively fast, and honestly, we were scared... we couldn't stop bouncing exaggeratedly, and two of my friends hurt their necks. I was truly scared, and I also think it is even dangerous. Furthermore, the guide and the driver saw that we were having a bad time and did not reduce speed... I don't know, bad, bad, bad. This excursion is not recommended in any way.

At the end of the tour, they leave you super far away.

The tour is excellent, the places are incredible; in that aspect, 10 out of 10. But be very careful; at the end of the tour, they leave you super far away, practically where they feel like it. My partner and I were not picked up in Cartagena and were left in Playa Blanca Barú (more than 50 km from my hotel), and they simply ask you to get off the boat and return however you can.

Mixed experience on a day that started well.

This day at the Rosario islands is quite similar to a dozen others that can be found in this website. There are some positives and some negatives, and it should be really divided into two parts: the first that includes everything up until lunch and the plankton experience. The first part is the best part. It is decently organised: for example the pickup was punctual, the trip to the islands was nice at most of the time (more about this in a bit) and the lunch was decent. Our guide did make an effort to talk to me about things in English (I was the only non-Spanish speaking person in the group), the boat was tidy, with enough lifejackets for everyone. We basically got decently looked after and we were kept safe. The only downside is that the itinerary isn't kept and we spent at Cholon about 90 boring minutes, being pestered from people trying to sell us food, drinks, souvenirs and drugs. Some stops were also purely money-making (like the second one on a islet in Baru), while the stop at the fort was disappointingly short (we didn't even get off the boat). We saw Escobar's plane, the snorkeling experience wasn't really snorkeling (we were just given a mask) but all was ok. The food at Baru was decent although someone can't really swim there as the place is rife with jetskis and boats (you can get killed and nobody will notice). The time there after lunch (which isn't a voucher like others but a full plate) is boring as consequently you can't do much apart from stay under the shade. Once the first part is finished though, the problems start. This is because then you are handed over to other guides for the second part of the tour, who although work for the same company have a totally different attitude to things. For example, on my case, none of the people who worked for the company spoke english and so for the next 3 1/2 hours I was left on my own, trying to see what will happen next by deducing meanings from words that sound familiar. The trip from the beach to Baru to the islet (again) from where we went to the plankton area, was a bit scary as the sea was rough and the boat was overcrowded. We arrived at the islet soaking wet and there was no help to get in and out of the boat. At the islet we were again offered to buy drinks, spend 2 and 1/2 very boring hours and there was also a 15-minute lecture in Spanish to buy a photo of yourself afterwards, while swimming with the plankton. This starts at 50 million pesos and goes very high, and you are effectively pushed to buy it. Once everyone pays up, you are gone to the plankton area (no help again to get in and out of the boat, all in dark), where you stay 15 minutes. This is nice, and the guide who was taking the photos did his best to get a good photo, but getting back to the boat was a challenge as there is no ladder. Then it was time to go back (and get soaked again). We returned at Baru, where my group was left to try and make it out of the boat in one piece on their own, as the guides have already gone off as soon as we reached close to the beach. Once we did that, with a few bruises, we weren't given time to change clothes and we were rushed, in the dark, to the buses going through dogs that barked and private back yards. So, I would echo what others wrote: if you are a large group book a boat on your own and do what you want. If you aren't into a fake party scene, avoid Cholon and spent less time in Baru. If you also don't speak Spanish, ensure that your guide speaks English for the whole excursion. The fact that nobody spoke it during the second part, made the experience dangerous as the sea was rough, the boat was small and overcrowded and it was dark. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it.

    Bad experience.

Bad experience. Tour aimed at spending money in stages with bars and tourist overcrowding. Little attention, no service from the organizers and also rude. Stressful tour. On the end return by bus with a long wait in the street and much discomfort. Not to be done!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cartagena.

How much does 5 islands snorkel and Baru viewpoint tour and TAXES INCLUDED cost?

    +

Prices start at $69 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cartagena usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 5 islands snorkel and Baru viewpoint tour and TAXES INCLUDED take?

    +

Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cartagena is not rushed.

Is 5 islands snorkel and Baru viewpoint tour and TAXES INCLUDED worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 41 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cartagena, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 5 islands snorkel and Baru viewpoint tour and TAXES INCLUDED?

Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cartagena and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Cartagena?

    +

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cartagena?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cartagena?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
