A great experience, very well supervised and accessible!

It was simply great! The hike is not very complicated, which makes it very comfortable and accessible to everyone (for any reasonable age). A special mention for the guides who showed constant kindness throughout the journey. Regarding equipment and the course: Know that the water is very cold, but the wetsuits are a real plus for fully enjoying this adventure without shivering. A very important tip: plan on good shoes that go in the water, because a large part of the walk is done directly in the riverbed! The end of the course: The small meal shared at the end at a cooperative is superb and perfectly rounds off the activity. Be careful, however: remember to bring cash to pay for your drinks.

    A breathtaking hike!!

We recommend!!!! A guide at the top, full of kindness that adapts to each participant and even plays the role of photographer... Thanks to him we were able to discover wonderful landscapes. Thanks, Ganis. The hike is very shaded and often in the water so even with strong heat we are fine. We ended with a delicious smoothie and a Greek salad with a very nice owner. The level of the hike is accessible with family (for us from 13 to 53 years old), just do not have joint difficulties and good shoes!!!

Fantastic river experience away from the regular tourist circuit

Great river walking experience, getting to see the water falls from water level is worth the entire trip, so the four km walk down the river is just an extra bonus. Our guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable about the area and gave us some extra tips on where else to visit. Communication prior to the trip went well and all the equipment was in excellent shape. Overall a very enjoyable way to spend the day.

    Unforgettable Experience!!

My partner and I attended the River Trekking in Kourtaliotiko Gorge. Manolis got in touch with us after we booked via the Viator App, to arrange our transfer. He was kind and helpful with any questions we had. He truly went above and beyond to accommodate us! I appreciate the Logo of Cretan Explorer is on their Van and as their WhatsApp Logo. It meant we immediately recognised the vehicle when it came to collect us. Transfers are from the Plaikas region. I couldn't recommend this experience more. It was the highlight of mine and my partners trip to Crete. The scenery is amazing. Along our trek starting at the Waterfall, we were immersed in the natural beauty of the Mountains and river. The gentleman who led the trek had an extensive knowledge of the wildlife and history of the area. We walked through some land, saw gardens growing and array of exotic fruits, and even bumped into a friendly horse! The Banana Garden was the perfect way to end our hike. The banana garden is reached by a bridge crossing the river and once you cross the garden is so tranquil. After a refreshing juice and delicious lunch made by his wife, the owner walked me round the garden to show his fruit trees and other plants and wildlife. A truly spectacular experience. 10/10 !!

Very nice and well organized river trekking tour!

Very nice and well-organized river trekking tour! The difficulty was OK. The scenery was really beautiful. Definitely a worthwhile experience to see Crete from a different perspective! The transfer went really well and the guide was nice. You get a wetsuit, a helmet, hiking poles and a waterproof pack sack. You should make sure to wear suitable footwear, such as sneakers. Afterwards there was a nice get-together in a small cafe.

5-Hour Shared River Trekking in Kourtaliotiko Gorge: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chania.

How much does 5-Hour Shared River Trekking in Kourtaliotiko Gorge cost?

    +

Prices start at $109 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chania usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 5-Hour Shared River Trekking in Kourtaliotiko Gorge take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chania is not rushed.

Is 5-Hour Shared River Trekking in Kourtaliotiko Gorge worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Chania, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 5-Hour Shared River Trekking in Kourtaliotiko Gorge?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 5-Hour Shared River Trekking in Kourtaliotiko Gorge suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book 5-Hour Shared River Trekking in Kourtaliotiko Gorge?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chania can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chania and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 5-Hour Shared River Trekking in Kourtaliotiko Gorge start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chania within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Chania?

    +

On Outty we rank every Chania experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cretan Safari – 4x4 Adventure to Preveli Beach with Lunch, Elafonisi & Falasarna Small Group Tour from Chania w/snacks, Half-Day Rethymno Quad Safari. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Chania?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Chania?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

What is included in 5-Hour Shared River Trekking in Kourtaliotiko Gorge?

    +

Included: Neoprene suit, Helmet, Waterproof phone-case, Walking stick, Mini lunch at the end; and Lunch. Not included: 5€ cash for the entrance ticket. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.

Does 5-Hour Shared River Trekking in Kourtaliotiko Gorge include hotel pickup?

    +

The operator notes: Not recommended for pregnant travelers. If accessibility is critical, contact the operator after booking to confirm arrangements for your date.

What happens to 5-Hour Shared River Trekking in Kourtaliotiko Gorge if the weather is bad?
