About this experience
When you are tired with modern buildings and busy city areas in Tokyo, how about going to relax in the nostalgic common people's town? We will take you to the city of 50 or 100 years ago. In this town many old houses, stores and temples remain, because this area escaped from earthquakes, fires, and air raids. Also you can find nostalgic Japanese common people's daily life which cannot be found in tourist spots. This tour is led by National Licensed Guide Interpreter. This itinerary is just a sample. We'd be more than happy to arrange the tour based on your requests. Please let us know your interests!

What you'll see and do
Yanaka Cemetery
Yanaka Cemetery (Yanaka Reien) is a large cemetery located north of Ueno in Yanaka, Tokyo, Japan. The Yanaka sector of Taito is one of the few Tokyo neighborhoods in which the old Shitamachi atmosphere can still be felt. The cemetery is famous for its beautiful cherry blossoms that in April completely cover its paths, and for that reason that its central street is often called Cherry-blossom Avenue.

Yanaka Ginza Shopping Street
Yanaka Ginza is an example of one shotengai that is thriving against the odds. Its retro charm lies in small independent shops, from sellers of meat, fish, vegetables, and other daily staples, to purveyors of ready-to-eat foods, tea, or traditional Japanese wagashi sweets—all prepared the good old-fashioned way, in small handmade batches.
70 minutes here
Nezu Shrine
Nezu Shrine in Tokyo's Bunkyo ward near Ueno Park is one of Japan's oldest shrines, and certainly one of its most attractive. Nezu Shrine is set in lush greenery, with ponds of carp, pathways that are tunnels of small shrine arches, and elegant, beautifully colored, wooden structures that reflect Japanese culture in all its age and beauty.

Really a must see
Yoshio was an excellent guide. Really enjoyed the sites and loved experiencing the subway. He was knowledgeable and always checked us for stops or lunch break, very thoughtful.
Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your warm review. Yoshio also mentioned how much he enjoyed spending the day with you both. Walking together through the quiet streets of Yanaka and hearing your stories was a truly special time for him. We hope you enjoyed the uniquely Japanese experiences, such as interacting with the local patrol officer at Yanaka Cemetery and the art university students. Thank you again for joining the tour, and we truly hope to see you again in Japan someday. Best wishes, Manami

First Time in Tokyo/Japan.
Was glad we had a guide to help us navigate the train stations. Only negative was our guide was young with little experience in imparting detailed information/knowledge on the places we visited.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback! We're glad to hear that having a guide helped with navigating the train stations. We also appreciate your thoughts on the tour itself—we're always looking to improve and ensure our guides provide enriching experiences. Yanaka has so much history and charm, and we hope you were still able to enjoy its unique atmosphere. If you ever have the chance to visit again, we'd love to welcome you for an even more memorable experience! Manami

Why this scores 62
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
4 Hours Private Yanaka Town Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tokyo.
How much does 4 Hours Private Yanaka Town Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $190 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tokyo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does 4 Hours Private Yanaka Town Tour take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tokyo is not rushed.
Is 4 Hours Private Yanaka Town Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tokyo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule 4 Hours Private Yanaka Town Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is 4 Hours Private Yanaka Town Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book 4 Hours Private Yanaka Town Tour?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tokyo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tokyo and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does 4 Hours Private Yanaka Town Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tokyo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tokyo?
+
Tokyo is less a city than a stack of neighborhoods with completely different opening hours. A guided food crawl through Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho gets you past the no-tourist curtains, while the day trips west to Hakone and Fuji need an early start to be worth the fare. Our ranking weighs guide quality heavily here, because in Tokyo the guide is the product. On Outty we rank every Tokyo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tokyo Shinjuku Chopsticks Making Class, Tokyo : Asakusa Chopsticks Making Class, Shinjuku Night Food and Bar Crawl. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tokyo?
+
Late March to May for blossom, October to November for clear Fuji views. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tokyo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
