Synagogue Ben Ezra
Ben Ezra Synagogue is the oldest Jewish temple in Cairo, dating from the 9th century AD. Like almost all of Egypt’s synagogues, it is simply a tourist attraction today following the departure of nearly all of Egypt’s significant Jewish community during the 1950s after the founding of Israel and the Free Officers’ Revolution, but this site still holds great importance in the contemporary history of Judaism. The 19th-century discovery a huge cache of documents, the synagogue’s treasury, which recorded the history and transactions of Cairo’s Jewish community since the 11th century, provided the most complete account of medieval Jewry anywhere in the world. These documents, however, are now held at Cambridge University in England.

Mosque of Amr Ibn Al-As
Amr Ibn Al-Aas is regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of Egypt because he introduced Islam to Egypt. He founded a new city just north of the Roman fort of Babylon called Fustat. Today, the Mosque of Amr Ibn Al-Aas still marks the site of this city. The structure has been renovated several times and none of the original structure remains today, but it is still the site of the oldest mosque in Egypt and the entire continent of Africa. Islam arrived in Egypt and the entire continent of Africa in 640 AD with General Amr Ibn Al-Aas of the Rashidun Islamic Caliphate. The religion was only a couple of decades old at the time and expanding quickly with the influence of the Rashidun Caliphate, which had been formed following the death of the Prophet Mohammed in 632 AD. Pyramids and Camel Ride
The tour of a lifetime! Emman, our guide, was efficient, with excellent English, and vast knowledge which she communicated in an interesting way. Instead of simply a list of facts and dates, she told stories of the thousands of years of Egyptian history. She was patient and had a sense of humor. The camel did not make me feel comfortable. I didn’t know how high they are and how wide the saddle is, but survived! We left with vibrant memories of the pyramids against a bright blue sky, now in our hearts. Joseph, our young driver, was where and when needed. Well done from start to finish!

Coptic Cairo Excellence
The tour was amazing! Marco was a knowledgeable guide whose English and sense of humor are maya maya (excellent). He is also quite patient. We saw the churches on Palm Sunday and the crowds were carrying or wearing palms. The history is fascinating. Mohammed, our driver, is a smiling, king of Cairo traffic, in our opinion.

Marvellous Marco delivers a trip to remember
We had the most incredible experience in Cairo thanks to Marco, our outstanding tour guide, and his wonderful driver who made every journey smooth and comfortable. Our adventure began in Old Cairo, where Marco brought history to life. We visited the Hanging Church, one of the oldest churches in Egypt, beautifully suspended above a Roman fortress gate. Marco explained its significance to Coptic Christianity and pointed out its stunning wooden ceiling shaped like Noah’s Ark, a fascinating detail that really captured the children’s imagination. We then explored the Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church (the Cavern Church), built over the cave where the Holy Family is believed to have stayed during their flight into Egypt. Marco shared engaging stories that made the visit especially meaningful for the children. Another highlight was the Khanqah of Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun, a beautiful example of Islamic architecture. Marco briefly explained its purpose as a spiritual retreat for Sufis, pointing out its elegant domes and intricate stonework. These are truly must-see sites among other areas of Cairo which is rich in history, culture, and architectural beauty. The next day, Marco and our driver collected us from the hotel and took us to the breathtaking Pyramids of Giza. The detailed tour was exceptional we even went inside one of the tombs, which was an unforgettable experience! Marco shared incredible facts about how the pyramids were built, the pharaohs they were constructed for, and fun, fascinating details that kept the children completely engaged. They took so many photos, and thanks to Marco’s fantastic photography skills, we now have beautiful family pictures and lasting memories. We were treated to delicious falafel wraps, full of authentic Egyptian flavours. Marco made sure they were purchased from a clean, hygienic, and trusted place, and we were provided with cold water throughout the journey which were small details that made a big difference in the comfort of our trip. Our day continued at the Egyptian Museum, where Marco tailored the visit to exactly what we were interested in learning more about. Seeing the ancient artefacts up close consolidated everything we had learned and it was the perfect way to deepen our understanding of Egypt’s extraordinary history. To end our trip, we asked Marco to help organise a dinner cruise on the Nile, and he arranged everything seamlessly. We were collected from our hotel and driven to the boat for a magical evening on the river. The food was delicious, the entertainment lively and enjoyable, and standing on the top deck enjoying the scenic night views of the River Nile was simply unforgettable. It was the perfect, relaxing way to end our Cairo adventure. Marco truly made this trip enjoyable, educational, and memorable. The girls still talk about the holiday and all the fascinating facts they learned. We are already looking to book part two of our trip and will certainly be contacting Marco again. Highly recommended. An exceptional guide and experience from start to finish.
