What you'll see and do

  1. Hello Nature Adventure Tours

No kayaking experience is necessary; participants must be comfortable in and around water, in good enough shape for 4 to 6 hours of daily kayaking and some easy hiking. Day 1 We will meet at 250 Seaplane Base Road to load our gear and head out. The one hour water taxi ride will give you a glimpse of the rugged and breath-taking beauty of the coast and Barkley Sound. We will be dropped off at one of the many sandy beaches within the Broken Group Islands. After unloading and sending off the water taxi we will assist and teach you how to fit everything in to the kayaks. Your guide will do a safety pre-trip talk, explaining and demonstrating the fundamentals of kayaking. You will learn or review how to get in and out, proper sitting position, paddle techniques, what to do in an emergency and of course answer any questions or concerns you might have.

A memorable trip

An amazing experience! The islands are beautiful and our guides were great company and very knowledgeable about the area and the sea life. You wouldn't want to travel through the maze of islands without someone with in-depth knowledge. No worries about packing gear; we just had to bring our clothes and sleeping bags. The meals were fantastic. Seeing spouting humpback whales was a highlight. I'd love to go back!

Response from the operator: We're thrilled to hear you had an amazing experience exploring the islands with our knowledgeable guides. It's great that you enjoyed the meals and got to see humpback whales—what a highlight! We look forward to welcoming you back for another adventure!

A memorable trip

What a terrific trip! Four of us went out with Nolan for three days, two nights. I can't say enough great things about Kevin (the owner) and Nolan, our guide. Their personable, genuine enthusiasm came through in every detail, from the very good boat in and out of our trip to the starting point in the islands, to the amazing food (really outstanding), excellent camping equipment and kayaks. Nolan made it look easy, responding to our request to see as much of the islands as possible, plotting a course that took into consideration wind and water conditions, as well as making a very good assessment of our abilities. He really set us up for success! When we paddled close to shore he made sure to find all kinds of interesting sea life to show us, as well as some indigenous sites, and was well informed on everything he showed us. The campsites, with outhouses, were beautiful and we were even able to have a campfire both nights. What a perfect trip, thank you Kevin and Nolan!

Barkley Sound Overnight

Our tour guide Eric is very knowledgable about all aspects of what we encountered on our tour. Our experience was enriched immeasurably. We lucked out with some great weather. Eric told us about the sea otter raft we saw, that their populations are recovering. He is especially well versed about the First Nations history and territories which is fascinating to have for context of the land and water we were travelling in. Thank you Eric!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! We're thrilled to hear that Eric enhanced your adventure with his knowledge of the local marine life and First Nations history. Our guides undergo annual cultural training and are passionate about sharing both the ecological and cultural significance of these waters. It's especially wonderful that you got to witness the sea otter raft - their recovery story is truly remarkable and speaks to the resilience of our coastal ecosystem. These moments of wildlife observation, combined with understanding the rich Indigenous heritage of the area, create exactly the kind of meaningful connection with nature that we strive to provide on every tour. Eric will be delighted to hear your kind words, and we're grateful that the weather cooperated to make your experience even more memorable! Thank you again for choosing Hello Nature Adventure Tours. We hope to welcome you back to explore more of Barkley Sound's natural and cultural wonders. Warm regards, Kevin

Beautiful BC Broken Islands guided tour by Kayak

Our guide, Nolan, took us on a spectacular tour of the Broken Islands by Kayak. We went not knowing what to expect and we got gorgeous scenery, whales and eagles and Nolan’s extensive knowledge of flora and fauna and camping. May is a great time to go!

Summarizing My Experience

The tour is super great and worth going. Yes, you see things. Yes it's a bucket list item. Now for the important stuff: - There is a large and freely available parking lot (over night... over week... over month...) immediately adjacent to the harbour where you will depart for your adventure. It is remarkably convenient. There's even public washrooms at the same spot. - They really do provide pretty much everything but a pillow. - The gear itself is great... but the cots are useless. Kevin is great to his guests, but kindly tell him to throw them away, replace the space in the boats with more homemade cookies, and never look back. The air core mattresses (which are GOAT'd by the way) just slide off and the cots collapse. I know the intention is to make people comfy, especially those who aren't avid campers, but it's not necessary. - The paddling jackets are perfect. They are pretty much only useful in the Pacific northwest where it is wet enough and cool enough in summer on the water to not sweat half of your body weight wearing them. You won't be disappointed. - The food is very solid, but paddling excursion companies across the board tend to do this very well. - The coffee punches above it's weight. For those who need caffeine, it is ubiquitous and solid (pre-ground... so you may wish to bring your own beans and grinder if you have strong feelings on what kind of dark brown tar to put into your body). It's something paddling excursion companies across the board tend to not do very well. So this was a win. - The campsites in the Broken Group are stunning, and the toilet facilities are works of art. They look like magical little treehouses. If you forget what goes on inside of them for a second, they really are cute photo-ops. - The intertidal life is spectacular. Sea stars for days, algae for days, among other things... - The Broken Group has painful sand at the beaches... you need Iron Man feet or a decent pair of foot wear. I'm on team Crocs for their quick dry capability and effortless slip-on, slip-off design. Since there is no such thing as perfect aquatic footwear, select the least bad for yourself of all worldly available options. - The guides are great, and lets be real, they really make or break the experience regardless of the other details. - If you haven't yet decided to book with Hello Nature for your Tofino-Ucluelet-Pacific Rim National Park excursion, I recommend that you quickly adjust your decision making process. - Kevin is about as laid back of a human being that exists. He's a gem. Probably too trusting of humanity, so don't be unkind to him, as I suspect karma will have it's eyes on you. - OMG! Just book it already!

4 Day Broken Group Islands Kayaking Expedition: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Vancouver Island.

How much does 4 Day Broken Group Islands Kayaking Expedition cost?

+

Prices start at $2370 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Vancouver Island usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 4 Day Broken Group Islands Kayaking Expedition take?

+

Plan for about 96 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Vancouver Island is not rushed.

Is 4 Day Broken Group Islands Kayaking Expedition worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 25 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Vancouver Island, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 4 Day Broken Group Islands Kayaking Expedition?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 4 Day Broken Group Islands Kayaking Expedition suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 96-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book 4 Day Broken Group Islands Kayaking Expedition?

+

Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Vancouver Island can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Vancouver Island and add a light layer if any part of the 96-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 4 Day Broken Group Islands Kayaking Expedition start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Vancouver Island within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Vancouver Island?

+

On Outty we rank every Vancouver Island experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Whistler Tour from Vancouver + Sea to Sky Gondola + Shannon Falls, Victoria Guided Food and History Tour, Victoria Whale and Wildlife Cruise. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Vancouver Island?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Vancouver Island?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
