Wonderful safari experience, with a few disappointments at Marc’s Treehouse
From being picked up in Johannesburg to being dropped back off again, I had the most wonderful experience. I booked the 2-night, 3-day safari, staying at both Tremisana Game Lodge and Marc’s Treehouse Lodge. All the staff were amazing – friendly, welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. The food overall was exceptional. At Tremisana, I had a lovely thatched lodge. Although fairly basic, it was clean and had everything I needed. The bed was very comfortable with a mosquito net all around it, and the room had both a fan and air conditioning. The grounds were lovely and there was a swimming pool. Breakfast was really good, and one evening we had dinner out in the bush, which was a lovely experience. The staff were extremely helpful. The safari itself was brilliant. Our driver/guide made every effort to find the Big Five for us, as well as plenty of other animals. You could really tell how much effort was being made to give everyone the best possible safari experience. I was then dropped off at Marc’s Treehouse Lodge, where someone kindly helped me get to my accommodation as it was quite a walk from the main facilities. I was a little disappointed when I arrived at my accommodation. Having seen the photographs on the website advertising a “wonderful treehouse”, I was expecting something similar – a cabin built high up amongst the trees. The accommodation I was given was quite different from the photograph I had seen. Mine was a thatched, rustic cabin which was raised on stilts at the back, but at the front it was only a few steps above ground level and it wasn’t built into or attached to a tree. I appreciate that accommodation at Marc’s may vary, but I do feel the website photograph gave me a different impression of what I would actually be staying in. Inside it was extremely basic. The double bed was comfortable and had a mosquito net, but the lighting was quite poor. The outer walls were made mainly from bamboo canes and mesh, with gaps between them. There was a window at the back, but at the front there was a blind which I initially assumed covered a window. When I looked behind it, there were simply bamboo canes. Thankfully, it didn’t rain during my stay. Having said that, this is rustic bush accommodation and some people will absolutely love that experience. My disappointment was mainly that what I received wasn’t what I had pictured from the treehouse shown on the website. The evening meal at Marc’s was gorgeous. We had bean soup followed by beef stew with rice and vegetables, and a custard tart for dessert. We ate in the dining room and, once again, the staff were great – very friendly and helpful. Sadly, breakfast the following morning wasn’t brilliant and was quite a contrast to the breakfast at Tremisana. Rather than eating in the dining room, breakfast was served further away near the reserve, meaning the food had already been cooked and carried down. There were two choices of cereal, orange segments and toast, although the toast was already cold. The cooked breakfast consisted of baked tomato, beef sausage and what I was told was scrambled egg. Unfortunately, the egg was extremely runny – more like soup with pieces of egg in it – and, for me, it simply hadn’t been cooked enough. All in all, I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed my safari. The staff were wonderful, the safari drives were brilliant and I saw some amazing wildlife. Tremisana was particularly enjoyable. There were aspects of Marc’s Treehouse that weren’t quite what I had expected, and breakfast there could certainly have been better, but this is simply my own experience. Overall, I’m very glad I booked the trip and it has given me some wonderful memories of my time in South Africa.

The photo you saw was most likely of treehouse 2 which is in a tree but does not have en suite facilities. Treehouse 7, in which you stayed, is on stilts but has an en suite bathroom. Over the 30 years we have run Marcs Treehouse Lodge, we have learned that the modern tourist prefers en suite accommodation. We are pleased that you enjoyed the dinner at Marcs and regret that the breakfast was disappointing. The camp manager and hostess are aware of your concerns. Amazing tour!!
My daughter and I had such an amazing time with Viva Safaris at the Tremisana Lodge and the treehouse! Everything was wonderful - the staff, the accomodation and the food. And of course the highlight was the safaris. We saw four out of the big five including two leopard sightings! The only one we missed was rhino. I highly recommend Viva for a once in a lifetime experience!

Quick and Efficient
If you are looking for a quick and efficient tour of Kruger, this tour should work for you. Pick up, drop off, and everything logistical was handled smoothly and without issue. The safaris themselves were great. The food provided was sufficient. I had a great time!

Great, I enjoyd every moment.
So many wild animals in just a few days. Everything was well organized, drivers knew much about animals. The lodge was great, and it,s inside the park so you can see wild elephants while eating breakfast.
