Magical experience!
We had an amazing adventure on this whale watching and northern lights chase. We spotted a humpback and a giant pod of 16 orcas. We learned so much and the guides were so knowledgeable. I’d book this tour 10 times over if I could!

A touch of magic
On 23 January we went on a 24h cruise with Norwegian travel. We were looking for an authentic experience combining different unique experiences in the far north. After a smooth check-in we enjoyed a delicious dinner with Norwegian salmon. While sailing in the night the northern lights became very bright thanks to having no ligt pollution and a bright night. In the morning we woke up between the fjords, magical! Next mission: spotting whales. Later in the morning we saw multiple sperm whales. The guides, Jana and Eline, were very helpful in explaining their behavior and later on the way back with a nice lecture. This was by far the best experience we had during our trip to Tromsø.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that your 24-hour cruise provided such a memorable and authentic experience in the far north. It’s fantastic that you enjoyed the Norwegian salmon, the magical fjord scenery, the Northern Lights, and the sperm whale sightings. Jana and Eline are delighted to know their guidance and lectures added to your experience. We’re so happy this was one of the highlights of your Tromsø trip!

24 hour boat trip
We took this trip at the end of the season. We knew that we would be lucky to see whales and the lights due to the weather and the season for the whales. We really enjoyed it. The lights were incredible and the knowledge from the team about the science behind them was amazing. We did manage to see some sperm whales not orca but the crew did all they could to ensure we saw something. Really brilliant trip. Food was amazing and the whole thing was hugely professional.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the Northern Lights and appreciated the team’s knowledge about the science behind them. While sightings can never be guaranteed, it’s wonderful that you got to see sperm whales and felt the crew did everything possible to make your experience memorable. We’re also glad you enjoyed the food and the professionalism of the team. It’s fantastic to hear that you had a brilliant trip!

An unforgettable 24h onboard MV Quest
This one night cruise with Norwegian Travel was absolutely incredible from start to finish. Huge praise to the captain and the entire crew, who were professional, attentive and clearly very experienced. We were even able to enter the bridge, and the crew were happy to answer any questions we had, which made the experience feel even more special and engaging. The rooms were spotless, comfortable and very well maintained. Cleanliness was excellent and made staying onboard relaxing and enjoyable. A special thank you to our guides, Jana and Lucia, who were outstanding. They were knowledgeable, passionate and always happy to share insights, answer questions and make sure everyone had the best possible experience. The scenery in Norway was simply breathtaking. We arrived late in January and were fortunate enough to see the Northern Lights on both days, which was truly magical. We also had the unforgettable experience of seeing sperm whales, something I will never forget. The absolute highlight of the trip was waking up to the morning view of the glacier from the boat. It was a quiet, powerful and awe inspiring moment that alone made the journey worth it. Even though it was just one night, this cruise felt like a once in a lifetime experience. We hope to be onboard MV Quest again and with a larger group.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your incredible review! We’re delighted to hear that your one-night cruise with Norwegian Travel exceeded expectations from start to finish. It’s wonderful that you enjoyed the professionalism of the captain and crew, the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, and the opportunity to visit the bridge. Jana and Lucia are thrilled to hear that their guidance and insights added to your experience, and we’re so happy you were able to witness the Northern Lights, sperm whales, and the breathtaking scenery of Norway. Waking up to the view of the glacier is indeed a magical moment, and we’re glad it made your journey unforgettable. We truly appreciate your kind words and recommendation, and we would be delighted to welcome you back onboard MV Quest in the future!

24hr Northern Lights & Whale Watching Cruise: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tromso.
How much does 24hr Northern Lights & Whale Watching Cruise cost?
+
Prices start at $7499 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tromso usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does 24hr Northern Lights & Whale Watching Cruise take?
+
Plan for about 22 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tromso is not rushed.
Is 24hr Northern Lights & Whale Watching Cruise worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 118 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tromso, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule 24hr Northern Lights & Whale Watching Cruise?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is 24hr Northern Lights & Whale Watching Cruise suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 22-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book 24hr Northern Lights & Whale Watching Cruise?
+
Around 41 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tromso can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tromso and add a light layer if any part of the 22-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does 24hr Northern Lights & Whale Watching Cruise start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tromso within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tromso?
+
On Outty we rank every Tromso experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Minibus Chase from Tromsø with Chasing Lights, Northern Lights Big Bus Chase with Chasing Lights, Tromsø Northern Lights Chase We Go Where The Lights Appear. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tromso?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tromso?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
