Depends on your guide

Our tour of the Vatican was a disappointment. Our guide Maria was very friendly but seemed to only give information on art and history of her liking. She skipped through major works and some of the most beautiful rooms to continue talking about 1 person- Raphael. Everyone in the group was a bit antsy to keep moving and we’d often spend 10-15 minutes in one spot. Other tours and guides were zooming past us and often confused why we were just standing in the middle of the room blocking everyone. The coliseum tour with Emmanuel on the other hand was wonderful. He was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly moving with intent through 3 spaces. Overall not a terrible experience but it sadly comes down to who your guide is.

Response from the operator: Dear Jacob, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent experience with us. We're truly sorry to hear that your Vatican Museums Tour did not meet your expectations. While we’re glad to know that Maria was friendly, we understand your concerns about the focus and pacing of the tour. We’ll ensure your comments are shared with her and our team to help improve the experience for future visitors. On the other hand, we’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your Colosseum Guided Tour with Emanuele. It’s great to know his knowledge and thoughtful pacing made a positive impression on your group. We appreciate your honest feedback about the variability of experiences based on the guide, and we are committed to ensuring consistency across all our tours. Best regards, Gray Line Rome

Informative

We loved both our tours and our guides. Namely Roberta and Maria. Our tours were informative and, thanks to the system with ear phones, easily heard. As our package also included a round trip on the Hop on Hop off bus some guidance with this would have been appreciated. As it was we missed that part of the package as we had no idea where the stops were.

Response from the operator: We're delighted to hear that you loved both tours and had a positive experience with your guides, Roberta and Maria. It's great to know that the tours were informative and the earphone system helped in making everything easily audible. We apologize for any confusion regarding the Hop on Hop off bus portion of your package. We strive to provide clear and comprehensive information for all aspects of our tours, and we regret that the lack of guidance on the bus stops led to you missing out on this part of your experience. Your feedback is extremely valuable, and we will work to improve our communication about the bus routes and stops to ensure a more seamless experience for our guests in the future. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we appreciate your understanding. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again and provide an even better tour experience. Best regards, Gray Line Rome

BEST TOUR FOR COLOSSEUM & PALATINE HILL

We had Paola as our tour guide . She was absolutely amazing. She answered all of our questions, and she kept my attention the entire time. I felt like I went back into the time of ancient Rome. I could imagine everything in my head based on her descriptions and stories! This tour was worth every single penny! This was definitely the best tour I had in Italy so far!!! Thank you!!! 2-Day Rome: Colosseum & Vatican Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.

How much does 2-Day Rome: Colosseum & Vatican Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $341 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 2-Day Rome: Colosseum & Vatican Tour take?

+

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.

Is 2-Day Rome: Colosseum & Vatican Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 18 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 2-Day Rome: Colosseum & Vatican Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 2-Day Rome: Colosseum & Vatican Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book 2-Day Rome: Colosseum & Vatican Tour?

+

Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 2-Day Rome: Colosseum & Vatican Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

+

Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rome?

+

April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rome?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
