Colin Shaw - a qware man of knowledge

I am born and bred in Belfast and decided that I wanted to learn a bit about some of our history. My brother and I met with our guide Colin Shaw and began or tour at 10am. Colin was a gentleman, polite, informative and well versed in his craft. His knowledge was superb and his delivery made the 2 odd hours go by effortlessly. Colin not only educated us on days of yore but made connections to more current events. I learned about buildings that I routinely walk past without knowing their secrets and prominence in the history of our great city. What a class way to spend a Saturday morning.

    Really interesting tour

I did this tour yesterday with Colin Shaw. It started at 10 and ended at 1pm. It was around 4km in length. It was really enjoyable. I would suggest a small amount if knowledge about the 1798 rebellion is helpful but not essential. Meet up was easy. Id thoroughly recommend.

Response from the operator: Hi Joe, Thanks for the recommendation and for sharing such useful feedback for future guests. Colin will be pleased to hear you enjoyed the 1798 tour, and we really appreciate the five stars. Best wishes, DC Tours

A great way to find out about Belfast's place in global events.

We found this company on social media. We arrived early to find Colin waiting for us. He was very welcoming and chatted while we waited for the rest of the group to gather. The tour was well organised and very professionally delivered. Colin was well organised with relevant aids and a superb grasp of the story of the rebellion. He provided great context taking the story back to the Plantation as a start point. The role of education, the enlightenment and the particular economics of the period helped explain the motivations of the key players, He also illustrated how their actions both influenced and were influenced by European and global affairs. Rather than a straight chronological narrative Colin used the geography of the city to introduce characters and events and the importance of place as well as ideas. This engaged the audience and aroused curiosity drawing us deeper into the events of the insurgency. Overall the tour was engaging, entertaining and informative, Colin also provided a reading list for further investigation. He pointed out that one of the books was rather old and could be found on Internet Archive, A very useful direction. This tour good value and a great way to find out about a formative event in history that is grossly overlooked.

Response from the operator: Hi William, What a fantastic review! Colin has put a huge amount of work into developing this tour, so it's especially rewarding to see that recognised in such detail. We're delighted you got so much from it, and really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. Best wishes, DC Tours

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Belfast.

How much does 1798 A Belfast Rebellion Walking Tour cost?

How long does 1798 A Belfast Rebellion Walking Tour take?

    +

Is 1798 A Belfast Rebellion Walking Tour worth it?

    +

That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 36 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Belfast, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

How far in advance should I book 1798 A Belfast Rebellion Walking Tour?

    +

Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Belfast and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

On Outty we rank every Belfast experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include A History of Terror - Belfast City Centre Walking Tour, Belfast Black Taxi Tour: Private Journey Through History, Belfast's Political Mural Taxi Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Belfast?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Belfast?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
