Our fantastic experience with private driver in Sri Lanka

We decided to book a private driver for our holiday in Sri Lanka and it was the best choice we could have made. Our driver Nandana was truly amazing. Very good at driving as well as a wonderful person from a human point of view. He accompanied us to all the places we wanted to visit, always available to give us directions and find some local place to eat. Thanks to him we were able to have a real experience in Sri Lanka. We can only thank him for everything and recommend him warmly.

Great vacation with very friendly driver

In January 2024 we made a 17 day tour starting at the airport of Negombo, and then via Mannar to Wilpattu, Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, Kandy, Kitulgala, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Udawalawe, Sinharaja and finally Weligama. Our first contact was with Jay, who was one of the few people responding to our first offer request who actually took the time to answer our questions (and in excellent English). Also when the agreement was made he was always available to help with our (many..) questions. Our driver was Mahinda, who picked us up at the airport with a Toyota Prius. A comfortable car that was big enough for all our luggage (we were only two people but carried around at least twice as much as normal people). One thing to keep in mind is that like most sedans, the ceiling on the back seat is quite low if you're somewhat tall (1,90 m). The car was modern and equiped with seat belts, and Mahinda made sure it remained clean. He was always punctual (even though we were late most of the time), always friendly and flexible to adjust the schedule if we asked for it. Furtermore he is just a fun, friendly guy with a generous smile, we felt comfortable really quickly. Traffic in Sri Lanka is a bit chaotic, especially with busses overtaking everywhere at high speed and the constant zigzagging between dogs that are laying and walking on the streets. Mahinda, a former lorry driver, showed his experience and although he drove fast (within limits) we never felt unsafe. No unnecessary risks while overtaking and alert on traffic coming from all directions. In the meantime Mahinda still helped us look for anything along the road. Fruit stands that sold the fruits we like, good local restaurants, special animals, coconuts, and the regular stuff like ATM's and grocery stores. Mahinda was in general very helpful by the way, also helping us with our luggage, making sure we wouldn't pay too much for souvenirs, tours and food, booking tours for us and even taking pictures of us. This was the first time we had a driver on vacation, normally we drive ourselves. We were a bit afraid that having a driver would mean less privacy or freedom, but we did not regret it for a moment. Mahinda always kept his distance unless we asked otherwise, and was always genuinely patient so we never felt rushed. Besides that, it was really comfortable to be able to get in a car after an early sunrise hike and relax until the next stop. We could not have expected it to be as pleasant as it turned out to be with Mahinda though, when we parted in the end it felt like saying goodbye to a friend. No matter what your plans are, I promise you that your vacation will be better with Mahinda as your driver (and the support of Jay of course).

A happy trip with Green Leaf tours

The driver Gayan was fantastic, diligent, caring and cautious. Jay was the best tour organiser I have met. A great and satisfying experience with Green Leaf.

Very Good

Overall we had a great experience with Greenleaf and visited several parts of the Island. Colombo, Kandy & Hatton. The sedan car we used was a Toyota prius and for a 6 year old vehicle was in good condition. Jay our guide cum driver for the tour who also happens to be the owner of Greenleaf holidays was well spoken well behaved and very punctual.

Very reliable, highly recommended

Together with my wife, we booked a Sri Lanka trip with Green Leaf holidays via srilankacaranddriver webpage as their quote was very fair and had positive reviews so far. I can only comfirm what I have read there. We took a tight 8-day tour with them (Colombo-Sigiriya-Kandy-Nuwara Eliya-Ella-Yala-Mirissa-Colombo). Our main driver, Jay was very helpful from the beginning till the end. Once we booked the trip, he put together a suggested itinerary and was very flexible when we wanted to change something even last minute. His English is very good and he is also very knowledgeable. Communication was very easy via whatsapp. We had a second driver as well, who was learning from Jay to be able to do tours on his own. He was also very kind with us throughout the trip. We always felt safe in the car (even if Sri Lankan driving is much different from what we are used to in Europe). All in all, we highly recommend Green Leaf Tours in Sri Lanka!

14-Day Private Tour in Sri Lanka: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Negombo.

How much does 14-Day Private Tour in Sri Lanka cost?

+

Prices start at $960 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Negombo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 14-Day Private Tour in Sri Lanka take?

+

Plan for about 336 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Negombo is not rushed.

Is 14-Day Private Tour in Sri Lanka worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Negombo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 14-Day Private Tour in Sri Lanka?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 14-Day Private Tour in Sri Lanka suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 336-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book 14-Day Private Tour in Sri Lanka?

+

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Negombo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Negombo and add a light layer if any part of the 336-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 14-Day Private Tour in Sri Lanka start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Negombo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Negombo?

+

On Outty we rank every Negombo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Car & Driver for 07 Days Tour In Sri Lanka, Most Popular Round Tour in Sri Lanka (10 Days), Highly recommended multi day tour in Sri Lanka. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Negombo?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Negombo?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
