- Level of Activity: Moderate to challenging: The jungle walks are moderate, but can become challenging in case of heavy rain; the trekking in the cloudforest is moderate, the hiking in Sierra Negra is moderate but long, and muddy during the wet season (from July to November); the sea-kayaking on Isabela Island is easy as well as the snorkelling.
- Sit on top kayaks, dry bags, life jackets, paddles and a dugout canoes with outboard motor, rubber boots, snorkels, masks and fins.
- All prices are based on double-occupancy. If you are travelling solo, you will be matched with another participant of your same sex. If you prefer to have a single room, please contact AJ prior to your departure to arrange your accommodation at an extra cost.
- Food: Travelling with Adventure Journeys you will have the possibility to experience and taste local food and snacks. Your guide will help you identify typical food and suggest the best places to enjoy it. Some meals are not included in order to give you some flexibility about where, what and with whom to eat. You have the option to share these meals with the group, however there is no obligation to do this. If you have any allergies or food restrictions, please inform AJ prior to your departure.
- Guides: All AJ guides and trip leaders are highly experienced, licensed to operate in Ecuador and certified as Wilderness Adventure First Aid responders. We always carry a complete first aid kit in our trips.
- In some location and for some activities, local guides join the trip leaders to provide an added service. In the Galapagos Islands, minimum 4 participants for the AJ trip leader service are required.
- Sustainable travel: Clients receive interpretation and education about the ecology and conservation of the Andes, Amazon Rainforest and Galapagos Islands, and learn about the factors that threaten it. We aim to promote long-term conservation of both local people cultural identity and the environment. We transport out and recycle all non-organic garbage and we prefer to work with local suppliers. Your visit will encourage the local communities to support responsible eco-tourism as a sustainable alternative for their living.

**An incredible introduction to Ecuador and the Galápagos – and a special mention for Leo
We had a fantastic trip to Ecuador and the Galápagos. The itinerary was busy, with some long transfers and quite a lot of time spent on buses, but this also meant we experienced a huge amount in a relatively short time — many places and activities that we probably wouldn’t have managed to organise ourselves. A special mention must go to our tour guide, Leo, who was absolutely brilliant throughout the trip. His knowledge, enthusiasm and genuine love for his home country came across in everything he did. He was always keen to go above and beyond, adding little extras and opportunities for us to experience more of Ecuador whenever he could. He shared an enormous amount of information during the longer journeys, was always happy to answer questions and was incredibly accommodating and flexible, whilst managing a large and varied group of people extremely well. He genuinely wanted us to experience Ecuador in all its glory, and that passion made a real difference to our trip. Thank you, Leo! The Amazon was a great experience, and two days felt like just the right amount of time. Our Amazon guide was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic and was keen to share both the wildlife and local customs with us. We particularly enjoyed the jungle lunch, eating from banana leaves, and visiting the local community to learn about their way of life and how they live from the Amazon. Making chocolate from fresh cacao was great fun, and tubing down the river was another highlight. The eco-lodge was fairly basic but perfectly adequate, with lovely communal areas. There were some long journeys between destinations, but having such a good group and Leo as our guide made the travelling much more enjoyable. Despite there being some limitations and different needs within the group, everyone worked well together. The Galápagos was the absolute highlight for me. It was simply breathtaking. The hotel was lovely, the staff were wonderful, and just being in that extraordinary part of the world was thrilling. The wildlife was incredibly rich and varied, and we saw everything I had hoped for and more. We were incredibly lucky to be there during sea-lion pupping season and actually witnessed a mother sea lion giving birth to her pup. That was an incredibly special and unforgettable experience. The islands themselves are beautiful, and I loved the fact that the climate was less humid and intense than the Amazon. The wildlife encounters, beautiful seas and incredible surroundings made the Galápagos a truly magical part of the trip. Quito also provided some unexpected highlights. We really enjoyed the equator museum, which was much more interesting than we anticipated, and the Teleférico cable car gave us a fantastic opportunity to experience the altitude. Thankfully, we coped very well and had no problems. Overall, the food, accommodation, excursions and arrangements were very well organised. There was one hiccup at the very end when our airport transfer didn’t arrive, but the Sheraton Quito were incredibly helpful and quickly arranged a minibus for the eight of us to get to the airport. LUMLE dealt with this at their end, and we didn’t have to pay anything extra, so thankfully it was very much a case of all’s well that ends well. This was a busy but incredibly rewarding trip, and we came home having experienced such a wonderful variety of Ecuador. The Galápagos exceeded my expectations, and the enthusiasm and knowledge of Leo added so much to the whole experience. Thank you, Leo, and thank you LUMLE, for some truly unforgettable memories!

Fabulous adventure

Magical holiday
My trip was amazing. I really got to experience so much of Ecuador starting with a tour of Old Quito that included a visit to an artisan chocolate cafe/shop. We stayed in the Amazon jungle for two nights in an absolutely charming lodge. We had a visit to an animal rescue centre and visited a local indigenous business which makes chocolate. Then it was back to Quito for a trip on the cable car which gives a view of the city before heading off to the Galápagos Islands which was the jewel in the crown. It was incredible to see the sea lions and the giant tortoises. Our tour guide Marie Sol was so friendly and knowledgeable about the history of Ecuador. Her energy and suggestions made the trip, alongside our amazing driver Vlad. Some of our journeys were around six hours on at times narrow roads. He was a careful and confident driver. I haven’t even written about all the amazing places we saw.

Wonder places and people!
We loved our recent trip to Ecuador, including Quito and surrounding areas (Cotopaxi, Otavalo, etc), the Galapagos Islands, and the Amazon along the Napo River. A completely delightful experience with great guides and precise travel plans.
