What you'll see and do

  1. Khamlia

Khamlia is a small town of just over 400 inhabitants. Located in the southeast of Morocco, at one end of the oval that forms the dunes of the Erg Chebbi, 8 km from Merzouga. A priori it may seem like another desert town: adobe houses, mosque, Amazigh-speaking people (Berber), but it is far from resembling other towns in the area. The inhabitants of Khamlia are mostly black people of color. The soundtrack of Khamlia says good morning to the people one more day in the house of music, where the group "Pigeons du Sable" in addition to working, keeps alive with their voices a culture and history born from the bowels of suffering and humiliation of millions of men and women of black Africa in the era of slavery.

  2. Erg Chebbi

Erg Chebbi has a length of 22 km (from north to south) and 5 km wide, and its dunes have a maximum height of 150 m. Located about 40 kilometers southeast of Erfoud, the villages located at the foot of the dunes are Hassi-Labiad and Merzouga that receive most of the tourists who visit the erg. The dunes of Erg Chebbi reach a height of up to 150 meters in some places and together it extends over an area 50 kilometers from north to south and a maximum of 5 to 10 kilometers from east to west that covers the border with Algeria.

MORE THAN GOOD, SUBLIME!

Once again....an amazing trip to that magical country. Moha, as always has been sublime and everything well organized and attentive to us at all times. Advising restaurants, haman... everything, everything, everything careful to detail. I will certainly return to that country and hand in hand with Moha.

His knowledge of the place, his friendliness and professionalism made the tour incredibly enriching. He explained the history, local culture and geography of the desert in a fascinating way. In addition, his ability to drive through the desert dunes made us feel totally safe at all times. Thank you very much Moha!! We'll see you again soon

Visit the whole area, dunes, nomadic people, abandoned mine, Merzouga, irrigation system in Oasis... with a first-rate guide

A great excursion at a very reasonable price. Moha and Hamadi are great professionals who know their land and know the job. Must not leave Merzouga without touring the area for a few hours. It only missed the Berber home food to be 100%, but circumstances made it difficult.

Response from the operator: Muchas gracias por tu aportación. Fue un placer enseñarte el patio de nuestra casa. A la próxima, que tengas mas tiempo vamos a comer un buen cus-cus. ¡Hasta pronto!

1/2 day 4x4 tour of Erg Chebbi: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Merzouga.

How much does 1/2 day 4x4 tour of Erg Chebbi cost?

+

Prices start at $80 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Merzouga usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 1/2 day 4x4 tour of Erg Chebbi take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Merzouga is not rushed.

Is 1/2 day 4x4 tour of Erg Chebbi worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Merzouga, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 1/2 day 4x4 tour of Erg Chebbi?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 1/2 day 4x4 tour of Erg Chebbi suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 5. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 3-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book 1/2 day 4x4 tour of Erg Chebbi?

+

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Merzouga can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Merzouga and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 1/2 day 4x4 tour of Erg Chebbi start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Merzouga within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Merzouga?

+

On Outty we rank every Merzouga experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Camel Trekking & 1 Night in Merzouga Desert Camp, From Merzouga: 2-Nights In Luxury Camp with Camel Trek & Dinner., Overnight in Merzouga with unforgettable Sunset & Camel/Quad ride. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Merzouga?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Merzouga?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
